Abstract: An improved torque converter may include a front cover and a piston disposed for movement within an internal bore of the front cover between unlocked and locked positions. The piston includes at least one one-way flow device disposed in the piston. The at least one one-way flow device permits fluid flow therethrough from a rear side of the piston to a forward side of the piston when in in an open position and restricts fluid flow therethrough from the forward side of the piston to the rear side of the piston when in a closed position. A clutch assembly is disposed between the rear side of the piston and the top plate that is disposed within and secured to the front cover. The clutched assembly is engaged to the top plate when the piston is in its locked position, and disengaged when the piston is in its unlocked position.
