Abstract: In one embodiment, a device (e.g., a transmitter) determines a level of error protection of each bit position within symbols of a particular constellation map used for modulation-based communication, and also determines priority levels of application data bits to be placed into a communication frame. Application data bits may then be placed into symbols of the communication frame, where higher priority application data bits are placed into bit positions with greater or equal levels of protection than bit positions into which lower priority application data bits are placed. The communication frame may then be transmitted to one or more receivers with an indication of how to decode the placement of the application data bits within the symbols. In another embodiment, the particular constellation map may be dynamically selected from a plurality of available constellation maps, such as based on communication channel conditions and/or applications generating the data.

Abstract: Techniques are provided for detecting connectivity failures within an OTV network using CFM. In an embodiment, a method and apparatus for using E-OAM to accurately test connectivity in an OTV network is provided. In an embodiment, one method comprises: in a first edge router that is in a local area network (LAN) and that is coupled to a core network: maintaining, for each node of the LAN, a mapping of a source address to one or more delivery multicast groups, each delivery multicast group comprising a set of other edge routers, each of the other edge routers having a connection to a distinct LAN; receiving a frame from a particular source node of a particular source address; sending the frame to a plurality of the delivery multicast groups that are mapped, in the mapping, to the particular source address.
Abstract: In one embodiment, one or more Fiber Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) proxy points (FPPs) communicates control and management information with a separately housed FCoE control and management plane (F-CMP) server in order to direct data plane functionality of the FPPs. Each FPP also proxies control and management protocols between the F-CMP server and one or more FCoE end-point devices for which the FPP is responsible (on FCoE ports). Traffic received by the FPP may then be processed according to the directed data plane functionality, such that FCoE traffic transmitted between first and second FCoE end-point devices separated by the Ethernet network is directed over the Ethernet network end-to-end between correspondingly responsible FPPs without traversing the F-CMP server.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method includes configuring a first network device for operation in a first logical group with a second network device, receiving information from other network devices configured for operation in a second logical group, the information uniquely identifying each of the other network devices within the second logical group, and assigning a priority to each link connecting the first network device to the second logical group network devices. A portion of the links are selected as active links based on the link priorities and the link priorities are assigned such that a balance of active links is maintained across the second logical group network devices. An apparatus for maintaining a balance of active links across the network devices is also disclosed.

Abstract: A power cable or data cable system includes an integrated electrical connection adaptor configured to be mechanically coupled to the cable system when not in use. The adaptor is coupled to the cable system using clasping features formed in the body of the adaptor or a tethering element. Thus, the adaptor is conveniently located for use and cannot be lost. In some embodiments, the tethering element serves as a cable management system that enhances portability of the cable system by bundling loops of the cable system together.

Abstract: Techniques are provided for implementing a zone-based firewall policy. At a virtual network device, information is defined and stored that represents a security management zone for a virtual firewall policy comprising one or more common attributes of applications associated with the security zone. Information representing a firewall rule for the security zone is defined and comprises first conditions for matching common attributes of applications associated with the security zone and an action to be performed on application traffic. Parameters associated with the application traffic are received that are associated with properly provisioned virtual machines. A determination is made whether the application traffic parameters satisfy the conditions of the firewall rule and in response to determining that the conditions are satisfied, the action is performed.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a rekey distribution process transmits, from a key server, a multicast probe message intended to be received by at least one group member device. The rekey distribution process also receives, at the key server, an acknowledgement message from each group member device that received the multicast probe message. In turn, the rekey distribution process transmits, from the key server, a multicast rekey data message intended to be received by each group member device from which the key server received an acknowledgment message. Furthermore, the rekey distribution process transmits, from the key server, a unicast rekey data message to each group member device from which the key server did not receive an acknowledgment message.
Abstract: Techniques and systems for recalling voicemail messages from remote voicemail systems are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method for recalling a voicemail message from a target mailbox can include: accessing a voicemail system by a caller using a device; authenticating the caller using speaker verification; and deleting the voicemail message from the target mailbox. The target mailbox owner can be a member of the voicemail system, while the caller can be a non-member of that voicemail system. The device may be configured to support a telephony user interface (TUI), for example.
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for providing distance extension and other transport functions such as error monitoring, provisioning, and link/service management in a fiber channel path are disclosed. According to one aspect of the present invention, a transport node includes a processing arrangement and an output interface. The processing arrangement creates a first ordered set that includes information associated with an ability for the transport node to receive a first fiber channel frame, and inserts the first ordered set between a second ordered set and a third ordered set of a fiber channel stream. The output interface transmits the fiber channel stream, which includes the information regarding whether the transport node is capable of receiving the first fiber channel frame.
Abstract: Techniques are provided for automatically generating Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) in a computing device. In one example, a request for the addition of a first API to a software infrastructure of a computing device is received. An API coding table that includes one or more initial API parameters corresponding to the first API is generated and an API coding template stored in memory of the computing device is obtained. A compiler of the computing device generates functional codes for the first API based on the API coding template and the initial API parameters.
Abstract: In one embodiment, a method includes obtaining an indication that a state associated with a node is to be changed and preventing data from being received on a first link. The method also includes updating at least one selected from a group including an incoming interface check (IIC) table and an outgoing interface (OIF) table to reflect the state. The state indicates that a second link is to be activated. Finally, the method includes allowing the data to be received on the second link after updating either or both the IIC table and the OIF table and after the timer duration for the NULL value for IIC has expired.
Abstract: In one embodiment, a universal programming module on a first device collects context and state information from a local application executing on the first device, and provides the context and state information to a context mobility agent on the first device. The context mobility agent establishes a peer-to-peer connection with a second device, and transfers the context and state information to the second device, such that a remote application may be configured to execute according to the transferred context and state information from the first device. In another embodiment, the context mobility agent receives remote context and remote state information from the second device, wherein the remote application had been executing according to the remote context and remote state information, and provides the remote context and remote state information to the universal programming module to configure the local application to execute according to the remote context and remote state information.
