Patent number: 6112612Abstract: A single lever hand control for multiple functions having two distinct axes of movement. In the case of a stand-up, battery powered lift truck having a mast, a carriage with forks raised and lowered on the mast, and the forks side shifted on the carriage, which also can be tilted from vertical, forward or back, the operator stands facing to the side with reference to the direction of travel of the truck. Movement of the control lever right to left from a neutral position relative to the direction the operator is facing controls the forward or reverse direction and the speed of the truck. The mast and carriage operations are controlled by the lever being pushed or pulled by the operator transversely to the direction of travel. The force required to displace the lever in one direction is less than that required in the other consistent with the large muscle groups employed to overcome the respective forces.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 1995Date of Patent: September 5, 2000Assignee: Clark Material Handling CompanyInventors: Arun K. Patent number: 5399059Abstract: An overhead support frame assembly provides enhanced strength for an attachment for the vehicle or the like, and features minimum obstruction of vision from the driver station. The frame assembly has a pair of laterally spaced frame units; each including an interconnected tower support plate, overhead extension plate, and upstanding support post. The base of each tower support plate is attached to the vehicle deck at an approximate 30.degree. angle to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle and slanted forwardly toward the horizontal overhead extension plate at an approximate 10.degree. angle. The position and angle of the tower support plates provide a 60.degree. unobstructed rear view from the driver station. Each extension plate is directed to the front of the vehicle and terminates at the upper end of an upstanding support post positioned adjacent to the driver station for secondary support.Type: GrantFiled: January 13, 1994Date of Patent: March 21, 1995Assignee: Clark Material Handling CompanyInventor: Clark C. Patent number: 5357935Abstract: An engine shut-down circuit for a gaseous fuel induction system comprises a solenoid operated three-way valve connected to the electrical system such that when a shut-down condition is sensed, a vacuum signal from the intake manifold is sent to a pressure regulator, causing its internal fuel port to automatically close despite the presence of a residual negative pressure fuel supply signal which would otherwise keep the regulator open, thereby shutting off fuel supply instantaneously, despite continued rotation of the engine, thereby preventing fuel from being inducted into the engine which, if present upon restarting, would likely cause pre-ignition or backfire.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 1993Date of Patent: October 25, 1994Assignee: Clark Material Handling CompanyInventors: Lonnie R. Patent number: 5330031Abstract: An alternative fuel system and compressed natural gas (CNG) conversion kit, primarily for smaller size industrial vehicles, such as compact loaders and lift trucks restricted in the space available in the engine compartment for the components of a CNG system where the vehicle was initially engineered for other fuel systems such as gasoline liquid petroleum gas (LPG) or diesel fuel having substantially fewer parts and components and less complex systems. A CNG tank is mounted horizontally outside of the engine compartment and a high pressure line connects from the tank to a regulator mounted inside the engine compartment for decompressing the gas to a pressure suitable for mixing with air in the carburetor of the engine. The CNG system has a refilling receptacle with an electrical interlock to the ignition preventing accidental drive-away.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 1992Date of Patent: July 19, 1994Assignee: Clark Material Handling CompanyInventors: Tom W. Patent number: 5326217Abstract: A lift truck includes an upright assembly having first, second and third telescoping mast sections. Each mast section is formed from pairs of laterally spaced and interconnected I-beam rails. A carriage assembly is mounted for movement along a path on the third mast section. Rollers are provided for mounting the mast sections and carriage assembly together for relative movement. A drive assembly connected to the upright assembly and carriage assembly serves to move the carriage assembly at a first, relatively slow speed over a first portion of the movement path and at a second relatively fast speed over a second portion of the movement path. More particularly, the drive assembly includes twinned actuating cylinders for operatively connecting the first and second mast sections. A first dead chain operatively connects the first and third mast sections. A second dead chain operatively connects the second mast section and the carriage assembly.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 1990Date of Patent: July 5, 1994Assignee: Clark Material Handling CompanyInventors: Clark C. Simpson, Jeffery C. Hansell, Jack L. Shafe

Patent number: 5320197Abstract: An upright, particularly for a counterbalanced, high lift truck, comprising first and second telescoping dual mast sections disposed in fore and aft relationship, each section having laterally spaced outer, intermediate, and inner rails, and a load carriage elevatable on the inner rails of the front mast section providing a five-stage, sextuple upright. The carriage has side thrust and vertical guide roller pairs travelling in anti-friction engagement on the inner rails spaced to distribute the forces for reducing roller wear and rail distortion. The carriage has a free lift that leaves the top of the carriage flush with the top of the upright reducing the possibility of ceiling damage. The carriage also does not extend laterally beyond the sides of the mast section to reduce interfering with objects alongside the lift, such as storage racks, when engaging a load. The rails and carriage overlap to a high degree thereby allowing loads to be lifted by a truck having a smaller capacity.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 1993Date of Patent: June 14, 1994Assignee: Clark Material Handling CompanyInventors: James J. Connerley, Jack O. Rocco, Ronald L. Weber
