Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for managing updates to a catalog based on a reference electronic catalog. The reference catalog has a reference format and a plurality of items, each with associated characteristics and the second catalog has a second format and a plurality of items, each with associated characteristics. The reference catalog is maintained with updates and revisions to the items and associated characteristics and the second catalog is maintained by repeating the mapping of at least a portion of the reference catalog into the second catalog after maintaining the reference catalog. Preferably, the maintenance times for both catalogs are recorded and the second catalog is maintained by comparing the recorded times and mapping only portions of the reference catalog that have been maintained into the second catalog.

Abstract: An electronic catalog is provided that stores items and attributes associated with the items. One or more of the attributes may have more than one value. Items are stored in an item table with different attributes for items stored in different rows in an attribute table. Additional items may be added to a catalog by adding additional rows to the item table, with attributes related to the additional items added as rows into the attribute table. Particular attributes may have multiple values, and attributes with multiple values are associated with sub-items that correspond to different attribute trees or attribute sets associated with the item. Searching can be performed for attribute values and search results returned indicating all items and sub-items that satisfy the search criteria.

Abstract: Methods and systems in a data-processing system for matching data contained in a hierarchical data tree structure. One or more sets of data contained within a first data tree structure can be associated with one or more sets of data contained within a second data tree structure, such that the data associated with the first data tree structure is generally utilized to process the data associated with the second data tree structure. The first data tree structure can then be compared in parallel to the second data tree structure beginning with a first root thereof to thereby identify data similarities between the first and second data tree structures based on a predefined search criteria. Finally, one or more matching set of data between the first data tree structure and the second data tree structure can be identified, in response to comparing the first data structure to the second data structure.
