Abstract: An enteral diet for patients with pulmonary disease comprising not less than 18% of said calories from a high quality protein source; from about 20 to 50% of said calories from a slowly metabolizable carbohydrate source derived from maltodextrin or other partially hydrolyzed polysaccharides; from about 40-55% calories from a mixture of lipids comprising medium and long chain triglycerides.

Abstract: A filling head apparatus for filling a pack aseptically has a steam inlet valve and passage and a steam outlet and emptying valve and passage connected to a filling head space for delivery of sterilizing steam to and for removal of sterilizing steam and residual fluid from the filling head space. The steam inlet and outlet valves and passages are positioned to have longitudinal axes which form an angle of from 70.degree. to 110.degree.. A valve which is displaceable in the filling head controls delivery and regulates the flow of fluid to the filling head space.
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for treating and/or reducing ischemic reperfusion injury. To this end, in embodiment, a method for treating and/or reducing reperfusion injury is provided comprising the step of administering to a patient in danger of reperfusion injury a therapeutically effective amount of L-2-oxothiazolidine-4-carboxylic acid. In an embodiment, a method is provided for limiting an expected ischemic reperfusion injury comprising the step of administering prior to an expected ischemic event a therapeutically effective amount of L-2-oxothiazolidine-4-carboxylic acid. In a further embodiment of the present invention, a method is provided for limiting ischemic reperfusion injury comprising the step of administering to a patient after the onset of an ischemic event a therapeutically effective amount of L-2-oxothiazolidine-4-carboxylic acid.

Abstract: A device for vacuum-assisted transfer of fluid from one container to another via a conduit and having an occluder positioned between the containers includes apparatus and method for clearing fluid from the conduit downstream of the occluder by forcing the fluid upstream of the occluder.
Abstract: A filter system for mass/weight apparatus that produces an electrical signal correlated to a mass/weight including a mechanical design for the apparatus so that the resonant vibrational frequency thereof falls above signal components of interest in the electrical signal, a fifth order low pass analog signal, and a digital low pass filter having 21/2 poles at a cut-off frequency designated so as to preserve signed characteristics in the signal of interest and significantly attenuate signal characteristics due to resonant vibrational noise.

Abstract: This invention is a method of influencing voluntary food intake of patients receiving parenteral infusions, by adding branched-chain amino acids to the infusion solution. The branched-chain amino acid solution prevents total parenteral suppression of appetite and increases oral voluntary food intake. The branched-chain amino acid solution lowers the risk of regurgitation and aspiration in patients for uhm preoperative nutritional support and is an essential part of therapy.
