Publication number: 20210261282Abstract: Apparatus for forming product containing pouches from a travelling web of adhered films includes a film support surface, including a plurality of mold configurations, and a film retention chamber in the film support surface preceding and trailing each of the mold configurations. A vacuum system applies vacuum to the mold configurations and film retention chambers to form product containing pockets and to secure the film in the film retention chambers. Separation blades in synchronous register with the mold configurations separate the pouches from the travelling web. In one form the film support surface comprises a rotary forming drum and a rotary blade drum includes the separation blades.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 18, 2021Publication date: August 26, 2021Applicant: CLOUD PACKAGING SOLUTIONS LLCInventors: Anthony Crivolio, Alexander Waterman, Donn D. Hartman, Argenis Almodovar

Publication number: 20210197417Abstract: Apparatus and method for separating product containing pouches from a travelling web of adhered films carried on a film support surface includes a rotary blade drum assembly having blade configurations with blade portions arranged to form the entire perimeter edge of the flange of the pouch which rotate in synchronous registration with grooves in the film support surface. In one form, at least one blade portion and associated groove portion are non-linear and other than longitudinal or transverse to the film support surface of the forming drum or travelling web of films. The blade portions may be heated and the rotary blade drum assembly may include insulating guides for the pouches.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 11, 2021Publication date: July 1, 2021Applicant: CLOUD PACKAGING SOLUTIONS LLCInventors: Alexander J. Waterman, Donn D. Hartman, Gregory Wilmes, Anthony Crivolio

Patent number: 10703515Abstract: A mold configuration for forming a pocket in a film comprising: a film support surface; a perimeter edge at said film support surface; wall surfaces inward of the perimeter edge defining a mold cavity; the wall surfaces including transition wall surfaces extending to a bottom wall surface; and a plateau surface inward of the perimeter edge. In one form, the perimeter edge includes sharp corner profile perimeter edge portions defining at least one sharp corner profile. A method of forming a pouch, includes using the disclosed mold configuration. A resultant pouch has a perimeter seal seam having at least one sharp corner profile.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 2017Date of Patent: July 7, 2020Assignee: Cloud Packaging Solutions LLCInventors: Donn D. Publication number: 20190358843Abstract: A system for controlling registration on a pouch knife machine of a longitudinally extending bandolier of content containing pouches separated by transverse seal seams moving along a feed path, with each pouch having a measurement reference. The machine includes a knife mechanism, a friction drag mechanism, and a friction drag adjustment mechanism. The system includes an optical reference, an optical image sensor, and a controller. The controller is configured to determine an actual position of the measurement reference relative to an optical reference, determine an alignment input based upon the actual position of the measurement reference relative to the optical reference, determine an alignment difference between a target position and the alignment input, and generate an adjustment command to change the position of the bandolier along the feed path after the alignment difference exceeds the operating range for the target position.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 24, 2019Publication date: November 28, 2019Applicant: Cloud Packaging Solutions LLCInventors: Donn D. Hartman, Tony Loiacono, Russell J. Miller, Alexander J. Waterman

Publication number: 20190217493Abstract: A rotary knife assembly includes a rotatable core and a plurality of knife blades extending from the rotatable core. A healing element is coupled with the plurality of knife blades, and the heating element is configured to heat the knife blades. One or more package guides are interposed between each of the plurality of knife blades configured to engage along one or more deformable packages as the rotatable core is rotated. In another example, a discharge assembly includes a conveyor belt including inner and outer belt surfaces, and a plurality of belt rows extending along a belt length. A plurality of package spacing ridges each include outer engaging edges, and one package spacing ridge of the plurality is positioned between each of the plurality of belt rows. The outer belt surface is recessed from the outer engaging edges.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 25, 2019Publication date: July 18, 2019Applicant: Cloud Packaging Solutions LLCInventors: Donn A.
