  • Patent number: 3978189
Abstract: A die casting process for forming an article having first and second elements intercoupled for pivotal or sliding movement. A first element is formed, as by casting, and the second element is cast with the bearing region of the first element forming a mold for the bearing region of the second element. The casting may be effected in movable dies, with the elements being moved either linearly or arcuately to the different die positions for sequentially casting the first and second elements. Freedom of the joint between the two elements is obtained by stressing the first element before the second element is cast thereabout, so that upon placing of the casting process the bearing regions of the first element spring back to their original position to enable free pivotal or sliding movement between the elements.

  • Patent number: 3974557
Abstract: A fastener adapted to be affixed to a hard wall, such as a concrete wall, has a base through which at least one hole extends. A bushing is releasably held in the hole at one end thereof, and extends outwardly, and a pointed pin is held in the center hole of the bushing. The bushing guides the pin into the wall, upon impact. The hole in the base and the bushing may be provided with flanges to inhibit their relative separation. A hinged cover may be provided on the base, to cover the bushings and pins when the fastener is affixed to a wall. In one method for making the fastener, a plurality of bushings are die cast with interconnecting gates, and the interconnected bushings are employed to serve as part of the die for die casting the base, whereby the gates become imbedded in the base to form a frangible means for holding the bushings in the base.

  • Patent number: 3965779
Abstract: An articulated cutting tool, such as scissors, is formed by casting a first element with a pivot region, and casting a second element using the pivot region of the first element as the mold for the pivot region of the second element. The pivot regions of the elements are tapered, and in order to free the pivot joint, the pin is upset, for example by punching in the axial direction of the pin. The articulated element thus formed is coated with a hard coating material, and the cutting edges of the tool are ground to provide a sharp cutting edge for shearing action to which the layer of hard coating material extends. The invention is also adaptable to articulated tools, such as pliers, which do not have cutting edges, in which case the plating and grinding of the tool may be omitted.

  • Patent number: 3944186
Abstract: A locking pulley assembly includes a pulley adapted to be affixed to a surface, a pull handle, a swivel hook, and a cord extending between the swivel hook and the handle around the pulley wheel. The pulley includes a unitary pulley wheel having locking grooves and coaxial frustoconical bearing surfaces, the pulley wheel being mounted for rotation in a unitary frame having inwardly facing frustoconical bearing surfaces engaging the bearing surfaces of the pulley wheel to form a rotatable joint. The handle is comprised of a cylindrical member having a central axial hole with reduced diameter at its central portion for holding a knotted end of the cord. The handle also has a slot at each end thereof of width slightly less than the diameter of the cord, to enable the handle to hold the cord. The swivel hook has a first element adapted to be affixed to the other end of the cord, and a hook pivotally mounted on the first member.
