Publication number: 20240240342Abstract: An aluminium production cell includes an elongated cathode current collector bar in contact with a carbonaceous cathode, the cathode current collector bar of copper or a copper alloy coated on its surface facing the cathode or all around with a thin steel protective layer 0.15 mm to 4 mm thick that forms an effective protection of the current collector bar from diffusion of aluminium or other reaction products produced on the carbonaceous cathode during operation. The volume ratio of the copper or copper alloy to the thin steel protective layer is for example in a range 400%-500%. The protective thin steel layer including an optional pre-applied thinner conductive non-ferrous under or overcoat is preferably in direct contact with the carbonaceous cathode that is ready to use with no need for rodding with cast iron.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 24, 2022Publication date: July 18, 2024Applicants: Novalum SA, Tokai COBEX GmbHInventors: Gualtiero SPINETTI, René VON KAENEL, Markus PFEFFER, Oscar VERA GARCIA, Mariusz MINKINA, Seweryn MIELNIK

Patent number: 11434428Abstract: Coke including additives that are accumulated at the yield points or in the regions surrounded by the yield points. For homogeneous distribution, the additives are continuously dosed into the delayed coker during the filling time. The dosing can be carried out by powdery blowing with an inert gas (nitrogen) or also distributed in a slurry consisting of the reaction components and a partial flow of the coker feed (vacuum resid, pytar, decant oil or coal-tar distillates). According to an advantageous form of embodiment, the additives may optionally have a diameter of between 0.05 mm and 5 mm, preferably between 1 mm and 3 mm. Advantageously, the additives can be selected from at least one of acetylene coke, fluid coke, flexi coke, shot coke, carbon black, non-graphitisable carbons (chars), non-graphitic anthracite, silicon carbide, titanium carbide, titanium diboride or mixtures thereof.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 2017Date of Patent: September 6, 2022Assignee: Tokai COBEX GmbHInventors: Oswin Öttinger, Heribert Walter, Martin Christ, Johann Daimer, Wilhelm Frohs, Frank Hiltmann, Rainer Schmitt
