Patents Assigned to Cobra Electronics
  • Patent number: 6272331
Abstract: A two-way radio system is claimed. The two-way radio system comprises a plurality of handheld radios. Each handheld radio has a housing and a receiving means and a transmitting means. The handheld radios function over a fixed frequency range. Each radio also includes a method of announcing an incoming call sent from a first handheld radio to a second handheld radio. The method comprises the steps of transmitting a communication within the fixed frequency range from the first handheld radio. The transmission is received by the second handheld radio, and announced by producing a vibrational movement in the housing of the second handheld radio.

  • Patent number: 6236336
Abstract: A traffic information warning system for conveying first and second messages regarding a traffic situation from a traffic advisory site is disclosed. The system comprises a transmitter adapted for placement at the advisory site and a receiver. The transmitter includes an oscillator for transmitting a first carrier signal and a second carrier signal. The first carrier signal has a first discrete carrier frequency and the second carrier signal has a second discrete carrier frequency. The first and second discrete carrier signal frequencies are located at a frequency location. The first message of a traffic situation is reflective of the specific frequency locations of the first and second discrete frequencies. A modulator modulates the first carrier signal with a modulating signal reflective of the second message regarding the traffic situation. The second carrier signal comprises an unmodulated signal.

  • Patent number: 6078279
Abstract: An electromagnetic signal detector with a means for detecting a first electromagnetic signal within a plurality of bands of frequencies, generating an alarm signal in response, and reinitiating an alarm signal for a second subsequent signal in one of said band of frequencies different from said first electromagnetic signal detection, is provided. The alarm signal response can be muted. The audible alarm signal reinitiates at any point in an alarm signal generation, even during muting, if a second subsequent electromagnetic signal of a different frequency band is detected.

  • Patent number: 6038429
Abstract: A method and apparatus for improving the signal-to-noise ratio of a citizen's band (CB) radio is disclosed. A compander circuit is used in both the transmitting and receiving portions of the citizen's band radio. Demodulated incoming audio signals are expanded by the compander circuit to increase the dynamic range of the incoming audio signals. Outgoing audio signals from a microphone are compressed by the compander circuit to decrease the dynamic range of the outgoing audio signals before they are amplified and transmitted.

  • Patent number: 5784021
Abstract: A noiseless radar detector with a dielectric resonator to suppress stray electromagnetic radiation generated by a local oscillator within the radar detector is disclosed. The dielectric resonator acts as an RF microwave absorber/attenuator if the resonant frequency of the dielectric resonator corresponds to the frequency of the interference from the local oscillator.

  • Patent number: 5612685
Abstract: A combined motion detector/transmitter device for a traffic information warning system is disclosed. The device includes first and second oscillators for transmitting first and second carrier signals, respectively. The first carrier signal has a first carrier signal frequency and the second carrier signal has a second carrier signal frequency. The carrier signals are used to transmit a message regarding a traffic situation based upon either the magnitude of the frequency difference between the first and second carrier signal frequencies or the specific frequency locations of the carrier signals. The first and second oscillators also set up first and second disturbance fields, respectively. A first reflected signal receiver is associated with the first oscillator and receives a first reflected signal when a target is within the first disturbance field.

  • Patent number: 5594432
Abstract: A traffic information warning system for conveying traffic information from a traffic advisory site to a vehicle is disclosed. The traffic warning site comprises an emergency vehicle, a roadside hazard, or the like. The system comprises a transmitter adapted for placement at the advisory site and a receiver adapted for placement at the vehicle. The transmitter includes a first oscillator for transmitting a first carrier signal having a first carrier frequency and a second oscillator for transmitting a second carrier signal having a second carrier frequency. The first carrier frequency and the second carrier frequency are spaced apart by a predetermined frequency difference. The transmitter also includes a modulator for modulating both carrier signals with an identical modulating signal reflective of a traffic situation.

  • Patent number: 5541980
Abstract: A cordless telephone/radio-monitoring system to allow a user to listen to radio broadcasts, such as regional weather broadcasts, through the base unit of a cordless telephone as well as through the handset unit of a cordless telephone. In the event of a weather emergency, an alert signal from the National Weather Service will automatically be announced from both the base unit and the handset unit of the telephone to advise the user of the weather emergency.
