    Abstract: An immmersible biological filter apparatus and method for the purification of waste water is disclosed. The apparatus has bacterial supports comprising at least two holding members and an assembly of skeins, wherein each skein comprises bands of plastic material disposed in a spiral arrangement around and between said holding members, thereby providing a substantial filter surface area on said bands between said members, wherein said bands are essentially continuous.
