One embodiment of the present invention is an extract of the plant Gymnema sylvestre for use as a medicament. A process for producing an extract from the fruit of Argania spinosa, and a triterpene fraction of an extract of the pulp of the fruit of Argania spinosa including lupeol, ?-amyrine, ?-amyrine, taraxasterol, and psi-taraxasterol are also provided.
