Abstract: Apparatus for the separation of suspended solids from a fluid under pressure, by means of a granulate-bed, consisting of granulates of at least two sizes of grain of a material which does not swell during the filtration operation. During the filtration operation, the fluid flows through the granular medium filterbed in one direction and filtrate used for backwashing the separated solids flows in the opposite direction. The granulate-bed is held firmly together during the filtration operation and during the purification by a compression source, that generates such a compression on the granulate-bed, that it keeps the relative position of the granulate-particles with respect to each other in the granulate-bed, both under the action of flow during filtration process as well as during the purification process, in essence permanently in place.
Abstract: Installation and process for multi-flash evaporation, in particular for the desalinization of sea water, in which the liquid to be evaporated is led through at least one passage channel which is constituted by a series of alternately snail-shell-shaped or volute spaces in which evaporation takes place and buffer spaces acting as a liquid slot or syphon for transporting liquid from a snail-shell-shaped space to the next snail-shell-shaped space.

Abstract: A process and a machine for bending elongated articles wherein the article is led progressively past a heating device heating a small band of the article, the bending taking place in said band, wherein for controlling the thickness of a wall portion lying in the bend one measures the longitudinal speed of said still unbent wall portion before this reaches the heating device and likewise the speed after this wall portion has passed the heating device, and adjusts the distribution of the temperature in the heating zone of the band by changing the heating pattern in dependence on the relation between said two speeds.
