Abstract: A primary carpet backing including at least a first and a second layer of fibers, characterized in that both the first and the second layer of fibers is a nonwoven layer of randomly laid fibers, that both the first layer of fibers and the second layer of fibers has a uniform composition throughout the layer, wherein the linear density of the fibers is in the range of 1 to 25 dtex, wherein both the first layer of fibers and second layer includes at least two different polymers and wherein at least one polymer included in the first layer is different from the polymers included in the second layer.

Abstract: A process to manufacture tufted backing materials comprises the steps of a) providing a roll bearing a backing material which backing material comprises a first side exhibiting a first colour and a second side exhibiting a second colour, wherein the first colour is different from the second colour, the first side is the front side and the second side is the rear side, b) unwinding the backing material from the roll, c) tufting the backing material, d) cutting the backing material at a position between the roll bearing the backing material and the tufting device, e) rotating the roll bearing the backing material by an angle of 180°, f) unwinding the backing material from the roll in a second unwinding direction which is opposite to the first unwinding direction and guiding the backing material into the tufting device, and g) tufting the backing material.

Abstract: A tufted nonwoven includes a face material which tufts a bonded nonwoven having a mixture of a plurality of bicomponent filaments 1 with a plurality of bicomponent filaments 2. At least bicomponent filaments 1 have component 11 and component 12. Component 11 exhibits a melting temperature Tm(11), and component 22 of the bicomponent filaments 2 exhibits a melting temperature Tm(22). Component 12 exhibits a melting temperature Tm(12), and component 21 of the second bicomponent filaments exhibits a melting temperature Tm(21), and Tm(12) is higher than Tm(21). The melting temperatures of components 11 and 22 and the melting temperatures of components 12 and 21 obey a relationship in which Tm(11) and Tm(22)>Tm(12)>first Tm(21) and optionally wherein the face material is bonded to bicomponent filaments 2 by a solidified melt of component 21. Abstract: A nonwoven is described comprising thermoplastic fibers with a fusion temperature Tm(th), bonding fibers 1 with a fusion temperature Tm(1), and bonding fibers 2 with a fusion temperature Tm(2), whereby for Tm(th), Tm(1), and Tm(2) the condition Tm(th)>Tm(1)>Tm(2) applies, and whereby the nonwoven contains the bonding fibers in the form of a solidified melt. Abstract: The invention pertains to two dimensional structures in particular grid like structures and to three dimensional structures in particular truss-like structures. The invention furthermore pertains to a process that allows production of these structures in a cheap and simple way. A grid like structure can be obtained by a roll press forming process wherein a quantity of the material is deposited into the nip between a first and second counter rotating roll and the material is pressed between the two rolls. The two counter rotating rolls comprise grooves substantially parallel to each other and the grooves on the first and second roll cross each other when the rolls counter rotate.

Abstract: The invention pertains cushioned vinyl floor coverings. For the production of cushioned vinyl floor coverings non-woven carriers made from glass fibers are currently used. However, handling of floor coverings with glass fiber carriers is quite difficult especially when the covering is laid on stairs or sharp edges. According to the present invention a solution to overcome the disadvantages of the prior art is a cushioned vinyl floor covering comprising a nonwoven carrier that is made from different polymers. The different polymers exist either in separate filaments or together in one filament.

Abstract: A laminate is proposed that includes a plurality of layers of nonwoven material consisting of fibers or filaments. The layers are at least partially bonded to each other. The layers include at least one unidirectional layer consisting of one or more parallel bundle(s) of unidirectionally oriented and interconnected fibers or filaments, and at least one additional layer consisting essentially of a random-laid nonwoven material.

Abstract: A nonwoven fabric is provided for a primary carpet backing comprising a bicomponent filament of polymeric core/sheath-type, the polymeric core component of which has a higher melting point than the polymeric sheath component, said bicomponent filaments are bonded together by the application of heat to form said fabric, characterized in that the polymeric sheath component is selected from the group containing polypropylene and copolymers comprising polypropylene and/or blends thereof. Abstract: A two-layer laminate and a process for manufacturing a two-layer laminate including a first nonwoven layer including thermoplastic fibers, wherein the first nonwoven layer is pre-consolidated and pre-shrunk, a second nonwoven layer including glass fibers, and at least one thermoplastic binder, wherein the first nonwoven layer and the second nonwoven layer are bonded together by application of heat, the second nonwoven layer is pre-consolidated and the thermoplastic binder originates from the second nonwoven layer.
