  • Patent number: 4809863
Abstract: A fill neck assembly of a vehicle fuel tank fill pipe incorporates in a single housing valving arrangements employed in an on board refueling vapor recovery system which prevents fuel vapor displaced from the fuel tank during a refueling operation from being discharged into the atmosphere. A fuel passage through the housing and connected to the fill pipe incorporates a nozzle seal near its inlet which will sealingly receive a standard fuel dispensing nozzle to enable fuel to be discharged from the nozzle into the fuel passage while preventing fuel vapor from being discharged from the fuel passage into the atmosphere. Vapor displaced from the tank by the incoming fuel passes from the tank through an outer hose loosely surrounding the fill pipe into a second passage through the housing having a vapor-liquid discriminator, a float valve and a vapor valve whose outlet is connected to a vapor receiving canister.

  • Patent number: 4804313
Abstract: A side channel pump (10) has a pumping cavity (26) which includes an inlet port (78), a discharge port (80) and side channels (72,74). An impeller (54) is mounted for rotation in the pumping cavity. A reservoir (20) holds an ample supply of liquid for pump priming and pump cooling during periods of gas pumping. A bypass suction duct (24) carries liquid from the reservoir to the pumping cavity during priming, gas pumping and normal operating and a bypass return duct (22) returns some discharged liquid to the reservoir during gas pumping and normal operation. The reservoir acts as a heat sink to enable the liquid ring formed during gas pumping operation to absorb more heat and provide pump cooling.

  • Patent number: 4802902
Abstract: A universal air cleaner cover base plate assembly for mounting standard size ring shaped air filters on closely spaced dual carburetors includes a pair of circular base plates formed with eccentrically located circular openings. The openings enable the base plate to be mounted upon the air cleaner flange of the carburetor body for rotative adjustment and their eccentric relationship to their base plates enables the center to center spacing of the filter elements to be adjusted independently of the fixed center to center spacing between two adjacent carburetors. The cover is of a generally rectangular configuration dimensioned to cover the tops of both air filters.

  • Patent number: 4798329
Abstract: A duty-cycle type electromagnetic injector assembly has a valve and cooperating valve seat with the valve being positioned away from or against the valve seat depending upon whether an associated electrical coil is energized; a housing generally contains the valve and valve seat; a guide closely confines the valve permitting the valve to be freely moved toward and away from the valve seat while constraining movement of the valve in other directions; and a fluid pressure regulator forming a portion of the injector assembly establishes both the static rate and dynamic rate of liquid flow metered by the injector assembly.

  • Patent number: 4796593
Abstract: An onboard fuel vapor recovery system for a motor vehicle includes a pressure responsive valve mounted directly on the vehicle fuel tank to control the flow of fuel vapor from the tank to a vapor storage canister both during normal operation of the vehicle and during a vehicle refueling operation. A pressure responsive diaphragm in the tank mounted valve opens a substantially unrestricted vapor flow passage from the head space of the tank to the canister when the head space pressure slightly exceeds atmospheric pressure. A separate passage in the tank valve equalizes pressure in the tank head space upon the withdrawal of fuel. A float valve responsive to the level of fuel within the tank seals the vapor passage from the tank head space when the tank is filled with fuel and further incorporates an emergency tank pressure relief valve operable in the event of overfilling of the tank.

  • Patent number: 4793085
Abstract: An electronically operated pistol (10) has a frame (32) upon which is mounted a barrel (36) and a shell (12) which encloses virtually all moving parts. The pistol has a trigger (14) which, when pulled, moves a front section (56) of a trigger bar (48) carrying a magnet (80) of a Hall effect switch. The trigger bar has a rear section (58) connected to a solenoid (114) which is actuated by a current amplifier (104) in a control circuit (124) which includes the Hall effect switch. Both sections of the trigger bar are independently axially movable but are so connected as to be pivotable about the trigger in unison to perform a disconnect function in association with a sear (78). A switch (104) in the control circuit mounted on the barrel senses the presence of a chambered cartridge (92). The control circuit includes a first light emitting diode (26) which illuminates when a round is chambered and a second light emitting diode (28) which illuminates when control circuit power is low.

  • Patent number: 4793133
Abstract: A manual backup system (10) for a fuel control incorporating a metering valve (108) controlled by an electronic computer has a power piston (34) and a loading piston (60) in confronting relationship adapted to engage each other upon power being withdrawn from a solenoid operated valve (72). The loading piston acts to maintain an arm (28) in engagement with the power piston so that it follows the power piston's movements as controlled by a servo valve (48), incorporating a fuel flow to compressor discharge pressure schedule (54), operated by a PLA lever (74). The position of the arm represents a requested fuel flow to discharge pressure ratio. The arm is mechanically connected to the metering valve through a multiplier linkage (96) which is also connected to a compressor discharge pressure transducer (98) so that the metering valve is positioned in accordance with the requested fuel flow to discharge pressure ratio as multiplied by the sensed compressor discharge pressure.

  • Patent number: 4749892
Abstract: A supplementary mass is arranged in an electromagnet system between armature and reset spring in such a way that, after reaching an end position, the armature is relieved of the spring force; due to the relief, a high excess of magnetic force is available for braking the subsequent bounce movement; the mass and force conditions of the magnet system are matched so that the subsequent collision of armature and supplementary mass occurs counter-directionally and the remaining kinetic energy of the armature is used up to a large extent by the counter-directional collision; the small bounce movement permits the use of spring systems with very high reset forces when the armature is pulled-in whereby the movement times of the armature are greatly shortened; and specific springs and spring arrangements for producing suitable reset spring force characteristics are described.

  • Patent number: 4737319
Abstract: An improved fuel bowl assembly adapted to be detachably mounted upon a main carburetor body minimizes exposure of sealing gaskets to standing heads of fuel contained in the bowl and affords ready access to the interior of the bowl without risk of fuel spillage. A one piece housing is formed with a bathtub-like fuel bowl chamber whose open top is closed by a detachable cover. The front wall of the housing is provided with fuel and air bleed passages so arranged that fuel flowing from the bowl through these passages must rise above the normal level of fuel maintained in the bowl before exposure to the gasket which seals the front surface of the front wall of the housing to the side of the main carburetor body. A float valve mounted on the bottom side of the cover controls the flow of fuel from an inlet passage in the cover to maintain a desired level of fuel in the bowl, and the moving parts of an accelerating pump are also mounted on the cover.

  • Patent number: 4736155
Abstract: An electronic control circuit for a bridge resistance circuit (10) of a transducer (20) has a switchable source of constant magnitude current (22) to direct current pulses of constant amplitude through the bridge circuit. A temperature setpoint detector (24) generates a temperature signal (TA) to a control logic circuit (26) when the circuit attains a predetermined temperature. The control logic circuit periodically turns on the current and directs a sample and hold network (32) to read the transducer output when the predetermined temperature is reached by enabling a gate (30). The control logic circuit turns off the current by applying a signal to the source of current after a reading of transducer output is taken. The current through the transducer develops its output, heats up the transducer and generates the temperature signal.
