Abstract: Power supply equipment is provided with two power ports for simultaneously powering two electronic devices. The equipment includes low power assemblies and high power assemblies, each of which is detachably mateable to either one of the power ports. To simultaneously power two low power devices, low power assemblies are respectively mated to each of the power ports. To simultaneously power one low power and one high power device, a low power assembly is mated to one of the power ports and a high power assembly is mated to the other power port. The low power assemblies transfer a low DC voltage, but not a high DC voltage, to low power devices. The high power assemblies transfer a high DC voltage, but not a low DC voltage, to high power devices. If a high power assembly is mated to each of the power ports, power flow is interrupted without putting supply in an overvoltage or overcurrent condition.

  • Patent number: 7868486
Abstract: A power supply provides a DC voltage to power an electronic device which includes battery charging circuitry. The power supply can be selectably coupled to alternative types of power sources and converts the power received from a power source to the DC voltage. The power supply includes source determination circuitry which generates a signal indicative of the type of power source to which the power supply is coupled. The DC voltage and the power source indication signal are provided to the electronic device. In response to the power source indication signal, a controller within the electronic device controls the amount of power drawn by the device by disabling the battery charging circuitry.

  • Publication number: 20100283330
Abstract: A detachable tip, utilized with a power adapter, includes a memory, a receiver, and a transmitter. The memory stores a character string, the character string identifying whether an approved power adapter is coupled to the detachable tip. The receiver receives an identification request from an electronic device. In response to the identification request, a transmitter transmits the stored character string to the electronic device. A controller may extract the character string from the memory and send the character string to the transmitter. Instead of a character string, the memory may store a value, which is representative of a maximum power output available. A detachable tip may include an input connector and an output connector. The input connector receives a value from the power adapter, the value being representative of a maximum power available from the power adapter. The output connector passes through the value to the electronic device.

  • Publication number: 20100190384
Abstract: Key coded power connectors include a single common power connector coupled to a power supply and a plurality of mating power connectors. A mating power connector is for coupling between the power connector and an electronic device. A mating power connector has a power rating based on the power drawn by a corresponding electronic device. The power connector has a power rating based on the power rating of the power supply. The connectors are shaped as a function of power rating such that only mating power connectors having a power rating equal to or less than the power rating of the power connector can be coupled together. This prevents an electronic device from being coupled to a power supply which cannot supply sufficient power to the electronic device.

  • Patent number: 7727005
Abstract: A key coded power connector and a system and method for making key coded power connections are disclosed. A power connector such as a power adapter connector is configured with either a visual keying system, a physical keying system, or both. The physical keying system prevents a user from connecting a host device to a connector of the power source which does not support that host device. The visual keying system provides the user with an early indication that the particular device is not supported by a power source. The user can visually compare a marking key on the host device with the making key on the power connector and determine whether or not the power source is capable of outputting sufficient power to operate the device. The visual and physical keying systems prevents a user from improperly connecting a host device to a power source which does not support that device.

Abstract: A centralized audio video testing system utilizes a remote client device. The remote client device includes a decoder, a renderer, a media engine, a video capture module and a frame module. The decoder receives a transmitted video stream from a video streaming server and to generate a decoded video stream. The renderer receives the decoded video stream and generates a rendered video stream that is able to be displayed on a display of the remote client device. The media engine receives the rendered video stream and plays the rendered video stream on a media player resident on the remote client device. The video capture module captures frames of the played rendered video stream. The frame manager receives the captured frames of the played rendered video streams and creates a degraded streaming video file.

  • Patent number: 7545656
Abstract: A common mode noise cancellation circuit eliminates common mode noise generated by a high-frequency switching device. The common mode noise reduction circuit includes a single switching device and a transformer. The switching device receives a rectified voltage and produces a switched voltage. The transformer includes a first primary winding, a second primary winding, and a secondary winding. The transformer couples the switched output from the first and the second primary winding to the secondary winding to generate a transformed voltage. A positive signed common mode noise waveform generated by the switching device is coupled from the first primary winding to the first secondary winding, and a negative signed common mode noise waveform generated by the switching device is coupled from the second primary winding to the first secondary winding, which results in a lower magnitude common mode noise waveform being present at the secondary winding.

  • Patent number: 7453171
Abstract: An adapter device includes a DC/DC adapter to receive DC power from a DC power source, and output a regulated DC voltage (Vout). A source determination circuitry receives the DC power from the DC power source and compares a magnitude of a voltage of the DC power with a reference magnitude of a reference voltage (Vref). When the magnitude of the voltage of the DC power is greater than the reference magnitude, a data signal (Vdata) having a first value is output. When the magnitude of the voltage of the DC power is less than the reference magnitude, the Vdata signal having a second value is output. The Vdata signal is received by control circuitry of an electronic device. When the Vdata signal has the first value, the electronic device operates in a first mode where battery charging circuitry is disabled. When the Vdata signal has the second value, the battery charging circuitry is enabled.
