Patent number: 5057659Abstract: A microwave heating utensil is provided with a microwave absorbent susceptor material which may include at least one metallic oxide and at least one metal in the reduced state. The susceptor material may be disposed in a layer on the surface of the body and a continuous cover layer overlying the susceptor material may be fused with the utensil body. The susceptor material may be formed by oxidation of a metallic susceptor-forming material in situ, on the body. Preformed layers comprising the susceptor-forming material and the cover material in particulate form may be applied to the body by transferring these layers from a decal substrate. The continuous cover layer may be formed by fusion of the particulate cover material in the same heating step as employed to oxidize the susceptor-forming material.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 1986Date of Patent: October 15, 1991Assignee: Commercial Decal, Inc.Inventors: Marvin Schneider, Louis A. Blanco

Patent number: 4800247Abstract: A microwave heating utensil is provided with a microwave absorbent susceptor material which includes zinc and manganese. The susceptor material may be disposed in a layer on the surface of the body and a continuous cover layer overlying the susceptor material may be fused with the utensil body. A preformed layer comprising a susceptor-forming material including zinc and manganese, together with a glass moderator material, and a further preformed layer including the cover material in particulate form may be applied to the body by transferring these layers from a decal substrate. The continuous cover layer may be formed by fusion of the particulate cover material in heating, typically in an oxidizing atmosphere.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 1987Date of Patent: January 24, 1989Assignee: Commercial Decal, Inc.Inventors: Marvin Schneider, Louis A. Blanco, Salvatore A. Milo

Patent number: 4303717Abstract: A novel heat release layer for use in connection with decalcomania paper and in decalcomanias which include a vitreous design layer surrounded by a heat release layer and a heat activatable adhesive layer is disclosed. In particular, the novel heat release layer disclosed comprises a combination of a normally solid straight chain, primary aliphatic oxyalkylated alcohol with either/or (1) a normally solid polyethylene glycol having an average molecular weight of greater than about 1,000, and (2) an amide of a fatty acid. Preferably, the oxyalkylated alcohol has a molecular weight above about 1350, the polyethylene glycol is present in the heat release layer in an amount of from about 1 to 50 weight percent thereof, and/or the amide of a fatty acid is present in the heat realease layer in an amount of from about 1 to 25 weight percent thereof.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 1979Date of Patent: December 1, 1981Assignee: Commercial Decal, Inc.Inventor: Ray Andrews

Patent number: 4117182Abstract: A novel heat release layer for use in connection with decalcomanias which include a vitreous design layer surrounded by a heat release layer and a heat activatable adhesive layer is disclosed. In particular, the novel heat release layer disclosed comprises a normally solid straight chain, primary aliphatic oxyalkylated alcohol which preferably has a molecular weight above about 1350.In addition, methods of preparing such heat release decalcomanias are also disclosed, including applying a heat release layer to a backing sheet, applying a design layer to the heat release layer, and applying a heat activatable adhesive layer to the design layer, again wherein the heat release layer is as described above.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1976Date of Patent: September 26, 1978Assignee: Commercial Decal, Inc.Inventor: Ray Andrews

Patent number: 4068033Abstract: An adhesive composition for a heat-releasable ceramic decalcomania is provided, the adhesive composition comprising an acrylic resin, a tackifier for said acrylic resin, which tackifier comprises a polyethylene glycol and/or solid polyoxyalkylene derivatives of propylene glycol or ethylenediamine, and an organic solvent therefor. Preferably, this tackifier is employed in combination with a second tackifier comprising one or more aromatic acid esters of monomeric and polymeric alkyl polyols.A heat-releasable ceramic decalcomania is provided which comprises a backing sheet, optionally a wax-impervious barrier layer disposed on said backing sheet, a wax layer disposed on said backing sheet or barrier layer (where employed), a design receiving support layer disposed on said wax layer, a design layer disposed on said support layer, and an adhesive layer as described above disposed on said design layer.Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 1976Date of Patent: January 10, 1978Assignee: Commercial Decal, Inc.Inventor: Hazel Meade

Patent number: 3956558Abstract: An overglaze decalcomania is provided which includes a prefused low melting point glass flux or frit as a protective layer and is substantially resistant to both acid and alkali attack, to mechanical abrasion, and inhibits release of lead, cadmium and other toxic substances normally found in decalcomanias. The frit is comprised of increments of lead oxide, silicon dioxide, cadmium oxide and tin oxide, and optionally titanium dioxide. It can include substituents of conventional frits as well. There is also provided a method for preparing such an overglaze decalcomania.Type: GrantFiled: January 24, 1975Date of Patent: May 11, 1976Assignee: Commercial Decal, Inc.Inventors: Louis A. Blanco, William F. Wenning
