Patent number: 7354118Abstract: A pneumatic brake system that includes at least one pneumatic latching valve; a single device, such as a solenoid, for providing momentary pilot signals to pneumatic latching valve; a source of pressurized supply air in communication with the pneumatic latching valve; a spring brake or other pneumatic device in communication with the pneumatic latching valve; and, optionally, an indicator device for monitoring and displaying the state of the pneumatic latching valve. Upon receiving a first momentary pilot signal the pneumatic latching valve changes from closed to open and delivers pressurized air to the spring brake. Upon receiving a second momentary pilot signal, the pneumatic latching valve changes from open to closed and exhausts pressurized air from the spring brake to the external environment. The valve remains “latched” in its current state until the signaling device is energized and the next momentary pilot signal is received.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 2005Date of Patent: April 8, 2008Assignee: Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems, Inc.Inventor: Robert J. Patent number: 6554210Abstract: Fluid and air nozzle assemblies are capable of propelling streams of a cleaning fluid and air mixture onto a vehicle vision device, visible indicator, or sensor. These nozzle assemblies are mounted on a vehicle adjacent to the vehicle vision device, visible indicator, or sensor and positioned such that liquid and air jets from the nozzles intersect prior to impinging upon the vehicle vision device, visible indicator, or sensor to form a spray mixture that cleans the vehicle vision device, visible indicator, or sensor. These nozzle assemblies have an adjustment feature for the purpose of aiming the fluid-air spray toward the vehicle vision device, visible indicator, or sensor.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 2001Date of Patent: April 29, 2003Assignee: Commercial Vehicle Systems, Inc.Inventors: Donald E. Holt, Chester E. Lundberg, Dave Austin, Mike Foster

Patent number: 6378187Abstract: A ferromagnetic spring transfer apparatus employs a movable magnet residing outside of an enclosed pathway, magnetically aligns and holds the ferromagnetic spring while pneumatic cylinders move the spring within the enclosed pathway to a position where another pneumatic cylinder ejects the spring from the enclosed pathway into an assembly location.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 2000Date of Patent: April 30, 2002Assignee: Commercial Vehicle Systems, Inc.Inventor: Warren T. Patent number: 6206299Abstract: A system for deployment of traction enhancing agents uses an infrared detecting sensor to receive ambient IR from a roadway, whereby the road surface temperature is determined. The determined temperature is supplied to a traction enhancing agent deployment controller, so that the amount and selection of particular agents can be governed based on the particular road surface temperature. Variations are thereby accommodated, so the most appropriate agent or agents in an appropriate combination and density can be applied.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 1999Date of Patent: March 27, 2001Assignee: Commercial Vehicle Systems, Inc.Inventors: Wayne L. Patent number: 6199773Abstract: Fluid and air nozzle assemblies are capable of propelling streams of a cleaning fluid and air mixture onto a vehicle headlight. These nozzle assemblies are mounted on a vehicle adjacent to the headlights and positioned such that liquid and air jets from the nozzles intersect prior to engaging the headlight to form a spray mixture that cleans the headlight. These nozzle assemblies have an adjustment feature for the purpose of aiming the fluid-air spray toward the headlight lens. The nozzle assemblies are associated with a control valve capable of connection in a pressurized air system on the vehicle and in the pressurized washer system for the windshield wipers and also capable of automatically directing liquid from the vehicle washer system and pressurized air on the vehicle to the liquid and air nozzles to form a headlight cleaning function upon manual activation of the pressurized windshield washer system of the vehicle.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 1999Date of Patent: March 13, 2001Assignee: Commercial Vehicle Systems, Inc.Inventors: Donald E. Holt, Chester E. Lundberg

Patent number: 6166657Abstract: An imminent icing condition detector employs an infrared sensor with a focusing element to receive ambient infrared energy from a surface, particularly a road surface, and the output of the sensor is processed to provide an indication of the likelihood of icing conditions and to accordingly control a traction control substance deployment system, such as a truck that dispenses a de-icing, anti-icing, or traction substance, such as sand, salt, or other material or mixture of materials in solid granular, liquid, or mixed form.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 1998Date of Patent: December 26, 2000Assignee: Commercial Vehicle Systems, Inc.Inventor: Wayne L. Patent number: 6147466Abstract: A synchronization system according to the present invention includes a signal generator that provides a "RUN" signal simultaneously to two or more windshield wiper motors in response to simultaneous receipt of position signals generated by the motors. Each motor generates a position signal when the windshield wiper controlled by the motor is at a predetermined position. A gate circuit monitors the output of each motor to determine whether the motor is in the predetermined position. The gate circuit provides a trigger signal to the signal generator of the present invention only when each motor outputs a position signal. The trigger signal causes the signal generator to produce a subsequent "RUN" signal initiating another wipe cycle. Accordingly, the motors begin each cycle in synchronization.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 1998Date of Patent: November 14, 2000Assignee: Commercial Vehicle Systems, Inc.Inventor: Steven J. Stronczek
