Abstract: A corrosion-resistant electric cable has a metallic conductor, a polymeric insulating jacket surrounding the metallic conductor, and a corrosion-inhibiting powder comprised of a hydrophobic material disposed between the metallic conductor and the insulating jacket. The corrosion-inhibiting powder may be comprised of a mixture of a hydrophobic fumed silica powder and a hydrophobic polyethylene powder.
Abstract: The cable shielding tape of this invention comprises a metal foil layer and a polymer supporting layer fusibly bonded directly to the aluminum foil layer and serving to structurally reinforce the foil layer. The polymer supporting layer comprises a polymer blend of a polyolefin component and an elastomeric component.
Abstract: Significantly enhanced bending characteristics are provided in a coaxial cable by reducing the stiffness of the tubular sheath in relation to the stiffness of the core. The cable comprises a core including at least one inner conductor and a low loss dielectric surrounding the inner conductor, and an electrically and mechanically continuous tubular metallic sheath closely surrounding the core and being adhesively bonded thereto, the ratio of the stiffness of the core to the stiffness of the tubular sheath being greater than 5.

Abstract: Disclosed is a coaxial cable having greatly improved mechanical and electrical properties derived from a foamed dielectric having a dielectric constant in the range of 1.32 to 1.1, such cable being provided by a novel method of coating a center conductor of the cable with a dielectric with an extruded cellular polyolefin base composition which has been rendered cellular by the direct injection of a blowing agent in a liquid form into the polymer during an extrusion process. Also disclosed is an apparatus and a method of continuous wire electropolishing and pre-coating.
