Abstract: A communications connection system includes an SC fiber optic connector including a storage device having memory configured to store physical layer information. The storage device also includes electrical contacts or an RFID antenna coil connected to the memory for transmitting information to a management system. The communications connection system also includes a fiber optic adapter module having one or more media reading interfaces. Each media reading interface is configured to read physical layer information stored on one of the fiber optic connectors received at the adapter module. Example media reading interfaces include electrical contacts and RFID readers.

Abstract: One embodiment is directed to a system comprising a panel comprising a plurality of openings. The system is configured to selectively couple a panel contact for each opening to an RFID reader. The system further comprises a plurality of optical adapters. Each optical adapter comprises: at least one radio frequency identifier (RFID) antenna; at least one adapter contact that is electrically connected to the RFID antenna; and at least one conductor configured to electrically connect the adapter contact to respective one of respective panel contacts when the optical adapter is inserted into one of the openings of the panel. The RFID antenna of each connector is configured to be positioned near an RFID tag attached to the connector when the connector is inserted into the body of the optical adapter. The system is configured to selectively couple the RFID reader to each of the panel contacts. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Abstract: A patch cord including a connector attached to an end of an electrical cable. The connector includes a single-piece attachment member having a management section, a boot, and collar including a retention arrangement. Certain types of retention arrangements include one or more teeth that protrude inwardly from the collar to bite into at least an outer jacket of the electrical cable.

The printed circuit board (120, 220, 320) includes a light source (125, 225, 325). At least an indication section (135, 235, 335, 365, 450, 515) of the communications component (130, 230, 330, 360, 400, 500, 550) includes (e.g., is formed from or is coated with) a light transmissible material. The indication section (135, 235, 335, 365, 450, 515) is aligned with the light source (125, 225, 325) when the communications component (130, 230, 330, 360) is received at the first port of the coupling housing so that light emitted from the light source (125, 225, 325) illuminates the indication section of the communications component (130, 230, 330, 360, 400, 500).

Abstract: An example universal contact assembly includes plug contact members and a sensing contact member that are overmolded together to form a single unit. Example adapter block assembly include a first optical adapter; a first contact assembly disposed in an aperture defined in the first optical adapter; a first circuit board; and a retainer arrangement that holds the first circuit board to the first optical adapter with sufficient force to retain the first contact assembly within the aperture. Example retainer arrangements include a cover having flanges with tabs that deflect into cavities defined by the first optical adapter; clamp members that clamp a cover to the first optical adapter to hold the first circuit board therebetween; and a retention strip having barbs that attach to the first optical adapter and barbs that attach to the first printed circuit board.

Abstract: Certain types of aggregation enclosures include cable input ports and downwardly angled cable output ports. A cover is pivotally coupled to the body so that the cover moves between an open position and a closed position. A modular component panel may be disposed within the enclosure. The component panel includes one or more distribution components (e.g., fiber distribution components or power distribution components) configured to connect at least a portion of an incoming cable to at least a portion of an outgoing cable.

Abstract: An adapter block assembly includes an adapter block, a circuit board arrangement, and a cover attached to the adapter block so that the circuit board arrangement is held to the adapter block by the cover. Contact assemblies can be disposed between the adapter block and the circuit board arrangement. The cover can be latched, heat staked, or otherwise secured to the adapter block. Each component of the adapter block assembly can include one or more parts (e.g., multiple adapter blocks, multiple circuit boards, and/or multiple cover pieces).
