  • Patent number: 7033219
Abstract: According to embodiments of the present invention, a modular plug assembly for use with a cable including a drain wire includes a plug housing, an electrically conductive plug wrap, and an electrically conductive contact member. The electrically conductive plug wrap is mounted on the housing and includes a contact portion. The electrically conductive contact member is adapted to be mounted on the cable such that the contact member engages the drain wire. When the plug assembly is mounted on the cable, the contact member engages the contact portion of the plug wrap to provide electrical continuity between the drain wire and the plug wrap.

  • Patent number: 7031588
Abstract: A shelf includes: a main panel unit; a slide member; and a component mounting panel. The slide member is pivotally attached to the main panel unit for pivotal movement about a first pivot axis and is configured for slidable mounting relative to an enclosure such that the main panel unit can be moved from a retracted position within the enclosure to an extended position that is forward of the enclosure. The main panel unit is pivotable relative to the slide member between a raised position and a lowered position when extended forwardly of the enclosure. The component mounting panel is pivotally mounted to the main panel unit for pivotal movement about a second pivot axis between front access and rear access positions.

  • Patent number: 6974348
Abstract: A high-density multi-port-module patch panel system includes angled multi-port modules. The system accommodates a high density of cable connections, while also providing effective cable management without increasing the maintenance costs or sacrificing the network performance. The angled multi-port modules exert less stress on the connectors and portions of the cabling adjacent to the connectors. Further, the angled arrangement provides a neater arrangement, and better facilitates maintenance and service procedures by providing improved visibility of labeling surfaces.

  • Patent number: 6946600
Abstract: A cabinet includes a first compartment for housing electronic equipment, such as equipment used to provide telephone service and/or voice and data networking services. The front of the equipment housed in the first compartment is accessible via at least one door. The cabinet also includes a second compartment accessible by a second door, on an opposite side of the cabinet. The second compartment is for housing a connection panel, which allows subscriber lines to be connected to provider lines and/or terminals of the electronic equipment. A partitioning wall separates the first and second compartments and includes an access port communicating the first and second compartments. When the connection panel is moved, e.g. pivoted by use of a hinge, a service technician can gain access to the rear of the electronic equipment housed in the first compartment via the access port.

  • Patent number: 6875928
Abstract: A cabling media includes a plurality of twisted wire pairs housed inside a jacket. Each of the twisted wire pairs has a respective twist length, defined as a distance wherein the wires of the twisted wire pair twist about each other one complete revolution. At least one of the respective twist lengths purposefully varies along a length of the cabling media. In one embodiment, the cabling media includes four twisted wire pairs, with each twisted wire pair having its twist length purposefully varying along the length of the cabling media. Further, the twisted wire pairs may have a core strand length, defined as a distance wherein the twisted wire pairs twist about each other one complete revolution. In a further embodiment, the core strand length is purposefully varied along the length of the cabling media. The cabling media can be designed to meet the requirements of CAT 5, CAT 5e or CAT 6 cabling, and demonstrates low alien and internal crosstalk characteristics even at data bit rates of 10 Gbit/sec.

  • Patent number: 6818832
Abstract: A network cable including a plurality of conductors and an associated crossweb having one or more fins of substantially elliptical cross-sectional shape. The crossweb runs longitudinally along at least a portion of a length of the conductors, and includes a central region approximately in a center of the cable and a plurality of fins extending outwardly from the central region, with a given one of the fins separating at least a first one of the conductors from at least a second one of the conductors. At least the given one of the fins has a variable thickness along a cross-sectional length thereof from the central region to an opposing end of the fin with a maximum of the variable thickness being in a portion of the fin between the central region and the opposing end of the fin.

  • Patent number: 6789398
Abstract: A heat source is formed within one piece of a multi-piece mold designed to shape a glass tube. The one piece of the mold can then be used as a source of intense heat to render the glass malleable and to also contribute to shaping the tube in conformance with the mold. In one embodiment, the heat source includes channels formed throughout the one piece of mold for distributing a gas therethrough with jets of gas emanating from the inner surface of the mold piece for heating the tube to be shaped to a desired temperature. In apparatus embodying the invention, there is no need for a separate torch and for moving the torch during the shaping process. Also, in accordance with the invention, better control of the heat supplied to the tube being shaped is obtained.
