  • Publication number: 20030118346
Abstract: Four optical interferometers are arranged in parallel. Optical path length differences of the optical interferometers are set to L, r×L, r×r×L, and r×r×r×L, respectively, where L is a unit optical path length difference (constant). A coefficient r by which the unit optical path length difference L is multiplied is any non-integer real number for example an irrational number. An irrational number is for example a surd ({square root}2, {square root}3, etc.), ratio of circumference D, or base e of a natural logarithm. When such optical path length differences are set in such a manner, a chaotic dynamical system, an addition theorem, and a chaotic map are not satisfied with respect to the intensities of light which is output from the optical interferometers. In other words, a thoroughly unpredictable sequence can be generated. The sequence is spectrum spread as spread codes.

  • Publication number: 20030081890
Abstract: An object is to reduce the noise of optical signals in optical processing. The optical signals and optical control signals are input into a first ring optical fiber, so that the optical signals propagates clockwise and counter-clockwise in the optical fiber, and the optical control signals propagates either clockwise or counter-clockwise in the first ring optical fiber. The optical signals propagating in the same direction with the optical control signals are affected with cross phase modulation with the optical control signals. The optical signals propagating in the different direction with the optical control signals are not affected with cross phase modulation with the optical control signals. The two kinds of the optical signals are interfered each other at the optical output means to reduce the noise of the optical signals.

  • Publication number: 20030063837
Abstract: A stabilized optical pulse generator using RHML-FRL is provided. The stabilized optical pulse generator comprises an optical fiber ring composed of optical fibers, an optical amplifier and a modulator for optical modulation, an electric signal generator generating high frequency signals and an optical pulse stabilizer. The device generates an optical pulse train of repeating frequency of fm, when applying electric signals of frequency of fm to the modulator. Wherein, for a resonance frequency of the optical fibers of fc, the modulating frequency applying to the modulator is detuned from the electric signal of the frequency of fm by frequency of the resonance frequency fc divided by integer of p. Optical pulse trains of repeating frequency of p times of fm+fc/p or fm−fc/p are generated.

  • Patent number: 6476582
Abstract: In a battery power supply apparatus for low-noise measurement systems or ultra high-sensitivity sensor elements (ultra-sensitive light or microwave sensors, or SQUID, SIS/SNS or other Josephson effect devices, etc.), the power supply device that supplies power to the outside and the control device that controls the power supply device perform bidirectional communications by means of an optical communications circuit, and thus it is possible to prevent noise arising in the control device from reaching the power supply device. In addition, it is possible to prevent the introduction of noise from the optical communications circuit into the power supply device within a shield case. Accordingly, it is possible to control the operation of the power supply device enclosed within the shield case from the control device outside of the shield case without having external noise affecting the power supply device.

  • Publication number: 20020126774
Abstract: A channel evaluator acquires a change predicted value from a known symbol, and a compensator compensates for a first symbol using the change predicted value. A demodulator restores a portion corresponding to this symbol with another subcarrier. A replica generator acquires a transmission replica of the restored symbol. The channel evaluator performs complex division on the replica with the symbol to acquire an amplitude phase ratio. A detector compares the amplitude phase ratio with an amplitude phase ratio acquired immediately previously. In case where an elimination condition is satisfied, the detector disregards the amplitude phase ratio acquired currently and uses an immediately previous value instead, an averaging unit averages amplitude phase ratios to acquire a next change predicted value, and the compensator compensates for a next symbol using the change predicted value. Hereinafter, the sequence of processes is repeated.
