  • Publication number: 20030120481
Abstract: An negative example prediction processing method for predicting a likelihood of examples being negative for data where, with respect to a certain problem, it is not known whether the data is for a correctly worded positive example or for an incorrectly worded negative example. In this negative example prediction processing method, an unknown example x is inputted and a determination is made as to whether or not the example x exists in a positive example database provided in advance. If the example x does not exist, a typical probability of appearance p(x) for the example x is calculated, and a likelihood Q(x) of the example x being an negative example is calculated from the probability of appearance p(x).

  • Publication number: 20030118346
Abstract: Four optical interferometers are arranged in parallel. Optical path length differences of the optical interferometers are set to L, r×L, r×r×L, and r×r×r×L, respectively, where L is a unit optical path length difference (constant). A coefficient r by which the unit optical path length difference L is multiplied is any non-integer real number for example an irrational number. An irrational number is for example a surd ({square root}2, {square root}3, etc.), ratio of circumference D, or base e of a natural logarithm. When such optical path length differences are set in such a manner, a chaotic dynamical system, an addition theorem, and a chaotic map are not satisfied with respect to the intensities of light which is output from the optical interferometers. In other words, a thoroughly unpredictable sequence can be generated. The sequence is spectrum spread as spread codes.

  • Publication number: 20030081890
Abstract: An object is to reduce the noise of optical signals in optical processing. The optical signals and optical control signals are input into a first ring optical fiber, so that the optical signals propagates clockwise and counter-clockwise in the optical fiber, and the optical control signals propagates either clockwise or counter-clockwise in the first ring optical fiber. The optical signals propagating in the same direction with the optical control signals are affected with cross phase modulation with the optical control signals. The optical signals propagating in the different direction with the optical control signals are not affected with cross phase modulation with the optical control signals. The two kinds of the optical signals are interfered each other at the optical output means to reduce the noise of the optical signals.

  • Publication number: 20030083859
Abstract: A system for analyzing language using supervised learning method. The system extracts portions matching with structures of problem expressions from a raw corpus that is not supplemented with analysis information, then converts the extracted portions corresponding to the problem expressions into supervised data including problems and solutions and stores in the data storage. The system extracts sets of solutions and features from the supervised data stored in the data storage, carries out machine learning processing using the sets and stores learned results as to what kind of solution is the most straightforward for which feature in the learning results database. The system then extracts sets of features from the inputted object data, extrapolates analysis information showing the most optimum for a certain feature, from the sets of features based on the learning results database.

  • Publication number: 20030063837
Abstract: A stabilized optical pulse generator using RHML-FRL is provided. The stabilized optical pulse generator comprises an optical fiber ring composed of optical fibers, an optical amplifier and a modulator for optical modulation, an electric signal generator generating high frequency signals and an optical pulse stabilizer. The device generates an optical pulse train of repeating frequency of fm, when applying electric signals of frequency of fm to the modulator. Wherein, for a resonance frequency of the optical fibers of fc, the modulating frequency applying to the modulator is detuned from the electric signal of the frequency of fm by frequency of the resonance frequency fc divided by integer of p. Optical pulse trains of repeating frequency of p times of fm+fc/p or fm−fc/p are generated.

  • Publication number: 20030047740
Abstract: A release layer composed of AlGaAs, a strain layer, a strain compensation layer composed of an InGaAs, and a component layer are formed on a GaAs substrate. The component layer includes a DBR film. A recess for defining a bent region is formed in the component layer. The component layer, the strain compensation layer, the strain layer, and the release layer are removed in an approximately U shape, thereby forming a groove. The release layer under the strain layer is selectively removed. The strain layer is bent at a region below the recess so as to relax strain caused by the difference in the lattice constant between the InGaAs layer and the GaAs layer, and the component layer stands perpendicularly to the GaAs substrate.

  • Patent number: 6518932
Abstract: A combination antenna and radio communication device comprises a dielectric base (10) on which a multislot antenna (101) made of conductor, a coplanar transmission line (102), a power supply line, and a high-frequency unit (104) are provided. • Patent number: 6477481
Abstract: A device for outputting stochastic process according to the present invention comprises a plurality of random variable output units, a normalizing unit, and a result output unit. Each of the random variable output units outputs a sequence of random variables whose limiting distribution obeys an explicit density function. The normalizing unit normalizes the sum of the random variables in the same row over the random variable sequences output by the random variable output units, and sequentially outputs the normalized values. The result output unit integrates the values sequentially output by the normalizing unit, and sequentially outputs the integrated values as result values in stochastic process. The random variable output units utilize a recurrence formula obtained by an addition formula of a tangent function, thus, efficient high speed simulation of the Lévy's stable processes is realized.

  • Patent number: 6476582
Abstract: In a battery power supply apparatus for low-noise measurement systems or ultra high-sensitivity sensor elements (ultra-sensitive light or microwave sensors, or SQUID, SIS/SNS or other Josephson effect devices, etc.), the power supply device that supplies power to the outside and the control device that controls the power supply device perform bidirectional communications by means of an optical communications circuit, and thus it is possible to prevent noise arising in the control device from reaching the power supply device. In addition, it is possible to prevent the introduction of noise from the optical communications circuit into the power supply device within a shield case. Accordingly, it is possible to control the operation of the power supply device enclosed within the shield case from the control device outside of the shield case without having external noise affecting the power supply device.
