Abstract: A line pair testing and fault diagnostic apparatus implementing three-terminal measurement techniques using a multiple frequency source waveform transmission to propagate a reflected waveform. The apparatus implements a microcomputer circuit executing a program. The program has frequency domain analysis algorithms to process the reflected waveform to provide a craftsperson with the electrical characteristic data of a line pair to inform the craftsperson the existence of a line pair fault and the location of the fault in the line pair. The apparatus implements relays for switching between several diagnostics circuits within the apparatus for providing the craftsperson with numerous methods and techniques for troubleshooting a line pair.
Abstract: A cable analyzer is capable of having at least 3 pairs of wire from telephone cables connected to the analyzer. By a central processing unit or computer in the analyzer, a series of relays connect any one of the pair of wires to a routing board. At the routing board, a plurality of analog tests may be directed to be conducted upon the pair of wires and ground, or the wires may be routed within the analyzer for other purposes. The results of the analog tests are converted to binary digital format so that they may be analyzed by the central processing unit. The results are visually displayed. The central processing unit has the capabilities, through different programs, to cause the analyzer to conduct a plurality of procedures upon each pair and to connect the pairs. Two analyzers, physically separated, are connected as master and slave so that the master analyzer controls the slave analyzer.
Abstract: A crimp type cable shield bonding device for electrical connection to the shield of a sheathed and shielded cable having an outer insulating sheath and an underlying conducting shield which encloses a bundle of conductors. A U-shaped clip having opposed wings and a fastener for holding the wings together when crimped on the cable sheath and shield. A spring plate positioned between said wings overlying one of the wings and having a section bowed outward toward the other of the wings to provide a spring pressure engagement with the shield when the cable sheath and shield are crimped therein. A terminal on the spring plate positioned within a terminal on the clip for attaching to a ground conductor or the like. An integral tab carried on the clip for holding the clip in the crimped position.
