  • Patent number: 8512604
Abstract: An acrylate-based optical coating composition containing a blend of monomers, a metal salt, a Hindered Amine Light Stabilizer (HALS), an antioxidant (AO), an initiator and a photochromic dye. The initiator has a range of free radical energy that is below a predetermined level. The cure process is controlled by the catalyst and initiator in combination with the HALS and AO to avoid deleterious reactions that can increase yellowness. The composition is well suited to be applied to a lens and cured in the mold to form a coating with reduced yellowness having high adhesion and abrasion-resistant properties. A photochromic segmented bifocal lens is produced with low photochromic fatigue and favorable % T values.

  • Publication number: 20130206328
Abstract: A process for applying a film structure onto a lens blank is improved by implementing a wedge piece when the film structure is pressed against the lens blank using a resilient cushion. The wedge piece forces the film structure to conform more tightly to the lens blank within a depression track existing on said lens blank. Then, the lens blank assembled with the film structure has a final optically useful area which is increased.

  • Patent number: 8474979
Abstract: A method makes a customized progressive ophthalmic lens intended for an identified wearer that includes measurements of the inclination of the wearer's head. These measures are made when the wearer performs visual tasks in far-vision conditions, by consecutively looking horizontally, then towards the ground. A variation of the optical power of the progressive lens, below a reference direction for the far vision, is adjusted on the basis of the measure results. The habituation period of the wearer to the progressive lens can thus be reduced.

  • Publication number: 20130105080
Abstract: A process for producing a curved substrate (20) covered with a film (10) comprises a heat treatment of the film performed between a step of preforming said film and a step of assembling the film with the substrate. A maximum temperature of the pre-assembling heat treatment is higher than another maximum temperature of a post-assembling heat treatment (F) which is performed after the assembling step. Then the assembly of the substrate (20) with the film (10) is not altered during said post-assembling heat treatment. In particular, no defect and no delamination appear, and no change in the curved shape of the substrate is caused by the post-assembling heat treatment, even if the substrate (20) has a low glass transition temperature.
