  • Patent number: 4560115
Abstract: An emergency lock safety belt retractor is designed to facilitate release from an inadvertent lock-up which may occur after full-speed retraction of the seat belt. This undesired lock-up is due to a latch mechanism which locks a belt spool in response to either excessively abrupt onset of extraction, such as may occur in front-end automotive accidents, or excessively abrupt cessation of retraction. This latch mechanism has two separate latches: a simple latch pawl biased away from its latched position and a more complicated lock wheel. The latch pawl is mounted on a rotary drum and in its latched position engages teeth on a stationary drum. The lock wheel is coupled for rotation with the belt spool but is free to move axially through three regimes. The lock wheel is biased toward a first axial regime in which it couples the rotary drum to the belt spool.

  • Patent number: 4559740
Abstract: A slider assembly for an automotive sliding door is more compact than conventional ones. This compact slider assembly can be obtained by overlapping part of one of vertical and horizontal rollers and the plane of the other in order to reduce the distance between the rotational axles thereof. A bracket supporting the rollers is formed with a recess receiving part of one of the rollers. In the preferred structure, the periphery of the recess is essentially concentric to the chosen one of the rollers.

  • Patent number: 4559466
Abstract: Conventional discharge tubes comprise electrodes within a separate containing vessel. The electrodes are joined to an external circuit by electrical conductors which pass through the vessel wall via an insulated side arm. Such a construction has disadvantages in that careful manufacture is required and it is also difficult to produce a desired distribution of the active medium in a laser and maintain a stable optimum temperature. In an attempt to reduce these problems the invention provides a discharge vessel which comprises electrical conductors and insulators arranged alternately so that a separate discharge vessel is not required. Since the discharge vessel is partially thermally conducting, temperature control is facilitated by its fast response to stabilizing controls, heat being supplied from an external source.

  • Patent number: 4559275
Abstract: In a perforated plate (1) for evening out the velocity distribution in a flow channel, the passage holes (2) are designed as shock diffusers arranged in parallel. For this purpose, they are provided with an inlet diameter (d) on the inflow side (3) and with a larger outlet diameter (D) on the outflow side (4) of the perforated plate. Due to this design, a relatively large blocking (area ratio of blocked flow cross-section to the free flow cross-section) on the inflow side and a relatively small blocking on the outflow side of the perforated plate are obtained. To ensure a shock diffuser effect, the length of the outlet holes must be sized such that the flow makes contact again before the outlet edge thereof. Important advantages of this perforated plate are that, with a relatively low pressure drop coefficient, a very good evening-out effect and a short back-flow zone on the outflow side of the perforated plate are achieved.

  • Patent number: 4559425
Abstract: A compressed-gas breaker having a magnetic coil through which the breaking current flows, has two coaxial contact members which are movable with respect to each other along a central axis and have in each case one arcing contact. The arcing contacts are surrounded by a heating chamber which is joined to the arc volume located between the separated burning contacts during breaking. In this breaker, the breaking capacity is to be improved by a simple means. This is achieved by the fact that between the heating chamber and the arc volume a gas-guiding device is provided which has at least three ducts which are arranged to be distributed azimuthally around the axis. These ducts have sections which open radially with respect to the axis into the arc volume. Such a breaker can be used preferably for the switching of large current of medium-high voltage.

  • Patent number: 4559167
Abstract: A varistor of metal oxides, predominantly zinc oxide (ZnO), is provided on its lateral surface between two contact faces, with a coating consisting at least partially of an organic polymer. • Patent number: 4557639
Abstract: Two cutting tool inserts are fastened at each side of a cutting tool insert holder to have their active primary cutting edges aligned. A third cutting tool insert is displaced in relation to the other two cutting tool inserts in the cutting direction such that its active primary cutting edge overlaps in extent the active primary cutting edges of the two aligned cutting tool inserts. This produces an effective total length of the cutting edges which corresponds to the sum of the edge lengths of the three cutting tool inserts less the two overlapping regions. Should one of the cutting tool inserts chip or break off in the region of the overlapping active primary cutting edges, the planing or shaping of hardened gear tooth flanks of a roughed-out gear blank or workpiece can nevertheless be continued since such chipping of the cutting edge has no detrimental influence on the workpiece due to the overlapping.

  • Patent number: 4557665
Abstract: A turbocharger for an internal combustion engine wherein a turbine wheel 18 in chamber 47 is driven by the engine's exhaust gases supplied to inlet volute 44 introducing the gases to the chamber through radially extending annular inlet passage 45 containing stationary vanes 60. The inlet passage 45 containing stationary vanes 60. The inlet area of passage 45 is selectively variable by moving axially a regulating ring part 61 (slotted at 70 to receive the vanes) relative to wall 46 of the passage. The ring part 61 is part of a thin walled regulating element 62 additionally comprising concentric tubular flanges 64,67. Flange 67 is in sliding contact with a stationary sealing ring 71 which prevents exhaust gases which may have entered region 122 behind the ring part 61 from passing under that ring part to the chamber 47.
