  • Publication number: 20130343837
Abstract: An automated pipe feed mechanism for transferring pipe away from a pipe tub, such as to a walkway and/or a pipe arm. A pipe feed mechanism may be mounted between the pipe tub and the skid mounted walkway for receiving pipe from a pipe gate. The pipe feed mechanism may or may not be mounted to the pipe tub and/or to a walkway. A support within the pipe tube carries pipe and may be sloped to urge the pipe towards the pipe feed mechanism. The pipe feed mechanism is operable for moving a pipe one at a time away from the pipe tub. In one embodiment, a pipe gate is located adjacent an upper edge of said pipe tub. In another embodiment, a pipe gate is located at a lower end of the pipe tub.

  • Publication number: 20130340572
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a completion system and method adapted for use in wells having long lateral boreholes. Particularly, the present disclosure relates to a pipe tong fixture for a conventional pipe tong apparatus, which may be installed within a mast for a long lateral completion system. The pipe tong fixture allows for the movement and precise control of the conventional pipe tong apparatus in relation to a borehole for efficient and safe remote operation of the pipe tong fixture and conventional pipe tong apparatus. The present disclosure also relates to torque measurement and the communication and analysis of such measurements during a completion.

  • Publication number: 20130341096
Abstract: A transportable rig apparatus provides single operator control for moving pipe into and out of a wellbore. A transportable control van houses the operator. A rig carrier is utilized to transport the mast. A pipe tong is mounted in the mast and is remotely operable from the control van. Rig blocks which move up and down in the mast are remotely operable from control van. A skid mounted pipe moving member moves pipe to the mast assembly and away from the mast assembly. The pipe moving member remotely is operable from the control van. A pipe tub stores pipe and a pipe tub transfer system is operable for moving pipe from the pipe tub to the pipe moving member and for moving pipe from the pipe moving member to the pipe tub.

  • Patent number: 7819209
Abstract: A guided transport unit and methods of guiding the transport unit for moving a superstructure in precise angular movements over a surface are disclosed. The guided transport unit comprises a skid pad, a vertical displacing member engaged with the skid pad, a base operatively associated with the vertical displacing member, and a directional actuator. The base includes a planar element for engaging the surface over which the superstructure is transported, and a carrier for moving the vertical displacing member and skid pad relative to the surface. The directional actuator controls and secures the relationship among the vertical displacing member, the base, and the skid pad for positioning the base in a predetermined direction to engage the surface, setting the carrier to move each skid pad in a predetermined direction across the planar element of the base, and repositioning the base in another direction for movement of the guided transport unit.

  • Publication number: 20060070735
Abstract: A flow back process usable on a well during a drilling operation includes the steps of flowing the commingled well fluids and solids into a surface-mounted flow back system under wellbore pressure. Alternatively, a flow back process includes the steps of connecting a surface-mounted flow back system to the well while the well is in an underbalanced condition. The operation of sequentially drilling through each of a plurality of isolation plugs is then initiated while flowing the well fluids and plug fragments into a surface-mounted flow back system. In yet another aspect, a large particle filter includes a filter section, a monitoring assembly, a bypass system and a purge assembly. The large particle filter can be connected to a Christmas tree and used to remove plug fragments from commingled flow leaving the well during a drilling operation.
