  • Patent number: 10145892
Abstract: A method for increasing a resolution of an on-chip measurement circuit is provided. The method includes propagating a first signal through the on-chip measurement circuit to generate a first output. The method also includes propagating a second signal through the on-chip measurement circuit to generate a second output. The second signal includes a delay. The method also includes reconciling the first output and the second output to determine the resolution of the on-chip measurement circuit. The resolution of the on-chip measurement circuit increases in correspondence with a fineness of a step of the delay.

  • Publication number: 20170364529
Abstract: A method for selectively compressing unstructured data includes preparing, at a host system, a data blob made up of unstructured data, for storage on a storage system. The method encodes a first portion of the data blob with a first color and a second portion of the data blob with a second color. The first color indicates that the associated portion should remain uncompressed, while the second color indicates that the associated portion should be compressed. The method transmits the encoded data blob to a storage virtualization layer associated with the storage system. In response, the storage virtualization layer stores the first portion in an uncompressed format, and compresses the second portion and stores the second portion in a compressed format. A corresponding system and computer program product are also disclosed herein.

  • Publication number: 20160349996
Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure are direct towards managing data overlay in a direct access storage device (DASD) using metadata of data stored within the DASD. The DASD receives user input. The user input includes a value indicating activation of overlay tracking for a track of the DASD. The DASD updates the metadata to indicate overlay tracking activation. The DASD detects a write request from an application to overlay data on the track. In response to overlay tracking being activated for the track, the DASD determines the access method used to transmit the write request. The DASD determines an identifier for the application. The DASD determines the identifier using the protocol of the access method. The DASD records data regarding the write request within the metadata. In response to recording the data regarding the write request, the DASD overlays the track per the write request.

  • Patent number: 8219414
Abstract: An improved method of appraising a mammal's health includes the steps of: measuring the values of a plurality of factors indicative of different health parameters at a first time; normalizing the measured values of said factors at the first time; and arranging such normalized measured values at said first time in a first sequence; thereby to have said first sequence represent the mammal's health at the first time. The method may include the additional steps of: measuring the values of such plurality of factors at a second time; normalizing the measured values of such factors at the second time; arranging such normalized measured values in a second sequence; and comparing the second sequence with the first sequence or with a similar sequences from a plurality of similar animals recording the same primary afflicting condition.
