Abstract: An intravascular filter having a filament which expands a filter element. The filament is a coil which is stretched to reduce the diameter of the coil for introduction. The filter element is preferably biased toward the closed position and is opened by the coil when tension is released on the coil. The filament slides along the internal surface of the filter element so that the filter element may assume intermediate positions.

Abstract: A system for removing an obstruction from a blood vessel includes an obstruction engaging element and an expandable capture element. The capture element preferably has a flexible cover and an expandable support structure. The engaging element engages the obstruction and moves the obstruction into the capture element. The capture element protects the obstruction when the obstruction is moved into the catheter.

Abstract: The present invention provides an obstruction removing device and a method for making the obstruction removing device. The method includes two mandrels with an elongate element being wound around the first mandrel and then wrapped around the second mandrel. The mandrels are movable relative to one another so that the second mandrel may be moved closer to the first mandrel after winding the element around the first mandrel and before winding the element around the second mandrel.

Abstract: A medical device is movable between first and second positions. The medical device has an actuator which is movable between a relaxed position and a stacked position. The stacked position of the actuator deforms the medical device toward the stacked position of the actuator. When the actuator is in the relaxed position, the shape of the medical device is primarily determined by the shape of a main element.
Abstract: The present invention advantageously provides alternative systems and methods for severing implantable occlusive devices, particularly hydratable polymeric filaments, from delivery catheters during and/or subsequent to intraluminal delivery, advancement, and/or positioning of occluding filaments into treatment sites. One method for severing an occlusive element from an intraluminal delivery catheter comprises positioning a delivery catheter in a body lumen and advancing at least one occlusive element to a target site. Energy is then transmitted to a severing element so as to break the occlusive element at a selected location along a length thereof for its release to the target site.
