  • Patent number: 5769913
Abstract: The objective of the present patent is an acoustic chamber for treatment of gaseous effluents containing solid and liquid micro-particles in suspension at various frequencies and high intensities. The acoustic energy agglomerates the micro-particles, thereby facilitating their separation by means of conventional systems (electrostatic filters, cyclones, etc.). The chamber has a rectangular cross section and is axially traversed by the flow of the aerosols to be agglomerated (1), while the acoustic generators, being of vibrating-stepped-plate type (2) and being able to work at different frequencies, are arranged contiguously or alternatingly on the side walls to create intensive stationary fields in the various transversal sections of the chamber. To take advantage of the emissions from both faces of the acoustic generator's radiating plate, it is proposed to locate it in between of two planar reflectors which form an angle.

  • Patent number: 5639429
Abstract: The production of fibers is carried out by allowing a gas mixture containing a gaseous hydrocarbon or an appropriate gas to pass through a substrate (generally a steel sheet) arranged facing the direction of the gas stream and situated in a furnace wherein the gas reaches a temperature of 1.000.degree. C. approximately. The schematized device is comprised of the corresponding gas reservoirs, that is to say the hydrocarbon gas and the carrying and activating gas, a mixing and preheating chamber, the furnace at the outlet of which are collected or burnt the inflammable gases and the grid from the surface of which, duly activated, the carbon fibers may grow. The gist of the invention is that the gas goes through the substrate situated facing the flow, so that said flow of gas is parallel to the direction of the fiber growth. The maximum length of the fibers is set by the distance between the substrate and a substrate or mask situated at the other extremity of the chamber.

  • Patent number: 5592031
Abstract: The object of the disclosed system is the fast switching of high voltage and short duration pulses on loads which requires high instantaneous intensities, in order to provide said pulses in both directions; the system is capable in switching narrow hand signals, and therefore long duration signals. The system is based on a very lower series impedance switching channel which is comprised of two high voltage capacitors (C.sub.1) in series with two rectifying groups (GR.sub.1 and GR.sub.2) connected in opposition and whose conduction status is activated by forced injection, through said groups of a direct current controlled by a reactive network in series with a conventional low voltage unidirectional switch (CBT), thereby providing for its logical control (SL) from digital circuits TTL or CMOS.

The method includes annealing the DNA molecule with a primer molecule able to hybridize to the DNA molecule; incubating the annealed mixture in a vessel containing four different deoxynucleoside triphosphates, a DNA polymerase, and one or more DNA synthesis terminating agents which terminate DNA synthesis at a specific nucleotide base, wherein each the agent terminates DNA synthesis at a different nucleotide base; and separating the DNA products of the incubating reaction according to size, whereby at least a part of the nucleotide base sequence of the DNA can be determined. The improvement is provision of a DNA polymerase which is a .phi.29-type DNA polymerase.

  • Patent number: 5514658
Abstract: A method for obtaining oligosaccharides starts with allylation of position (3') of .beta.-lactosides followed by controlled benzylation, which leads to perbenzylated and partially benzylated compounds. The latter are glycosylated at position 3, not benzylated, with a donor of .varies.-fucopyranosyl to yield protected trisaccharides. These and perbenzylated .beta.-Lactosides are deallylated and, later, are glycosylated with 2-azido-2-deoxy-.varies.-D-galactopyranosyl to yield protected tetrasaccharides and trisaccharides, respectively. The debenzylation of said products accompanied by the reduction of the azido group and simultaneous acetylation of the amino group produces intermediary products which, by O-deacetylation, leads respectively to the final tetrasaccharides and trisaccharides.
