Patent number: 11789009Abstract: Embodiments include breath intoxicant monitoring systems and methods of operating a breath intoxicant monitoring system. In an embodiment, a breath intoxicant monitoring system, includes a first detection element, a second detection element, and a control module. The first detection element can be operable to detect a level of an intoxicant in a user's breath and to provide a continuous signal indicating the level of intoxicant. The second detection element can be operable to detect a level of the intoxicant. The second detection element includes a different type of element than the first detection element. The second detection element can have greater accuracy than the first detection element. The control module to selectively operate the second detection element based on the signal received from the first detection element, and to indicate whether the level of intoxicant in the user's breath exceeds a threshold. Other embodiments are also included herein.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 2020Date of Patent: October 17, 2023Assignee: Consumer Safety Technology, LLCInventors: Scott Ruland, Douglas Edward DeVries

Patent number: 11427083Abstract: A method and a system of deploying an ignition interlock device (IID). The method comprises receiving a time series of breath alcohol content (BrAC) measurements that are unitarily sourced from a pre-identified user, each BrAC measurement of the time series including an alveolar breath component and an interferent breath component; estimating a dissipation rate of alcohol attributable to the pre-identified user in accordance with the time series of BrAC measurements; determining, responsive to estimating the dissipation rate of alcohol, at least a subset of the BrAC measurements as being based on the alveolar breath component but not the interferent breath component; and performing one of triggering and not triggering the IID into a lockout state based on the at least a subset of the BrAC measurements.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 2020Date of Patent: August 30, 2022Assignee: Consumer Safety Technology, LLCInventors: Amanda Renee Mallinger, Jennifer Ringgenberg, Usha Rani Chintala, Douglas Robert Bruce, Sujitha Chandra Mohan

Patent number: 5426415Abstract: An improved breath analyzing apparatus for use in an automobile ignition locking system. A breath sample tube receives a breath sample from a user. The breath sample tube is divided into a high pressure section and a low pressure section by an air flow restrictor. A pressure sensor is connected to the high pressure section to determine when a user is blowing into the breath analyzing apparatus. A temperature sensor measures the temperature of the breath sample to insure that it is the same temperature as human breath. A micropump propels a specified volume of the breath sample into a fuel cell which is used to determine the alcohol content. Control means converts the output of the fuel cell into a reading which represents the breath alcohol content of the breath sample. Heating elements warm the fuel cell when the ambient temperature drops below a specified level. The output of the fuel cell is adjusted based on the time it takes the fuel cell to reach its maximum output.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 1993Date of Patent: June 20, 1995Assignee: Consumer Safety TechnologyInventors: Timothy J.
