  • Patent number: 7628288
Abstract: A lid for a container comprises a groove for engagement with a rim of the container. The dimensions of the lid may be reduced sufficiently that the groove can be disengaged from the rim of the container without the use of a tool. An elastomeric section is moulded between two polypropylene sections such that when the recesses are squeezed together, the elastomeric section deforms and thereby allows a sufficient reduction in the diameter of the lid that the lid can be removed from the container without the use of a tool. A catch may be provided across the elastomeric section such that when the catch is in the closed position, the elastomeric section is prevented from deforming and the lid cannot be easily removed from the container.

  • Publication number: 20050189356
Abstract: An improved lid for sealing a container is provided. The improvement is a set of radial beads, evenly spaced on the lid surface. When the lid-sealed container is under a pressure differential relative to the environment, the beads form locations in which resulting creases are predisposed to form. The even distribution of creases contributes to the reliability of the seal between the lid and container.

  • Patent number: 6021917
Abstract: A plastic lid for a pail. The lid has a substantially planar central section and a peripheral channel. The channel fits over the pail to effect closure thereof. The central section is spaced from the channel by a groove and a ridge, each of which extend around the lid juxtaposed to the channel, with the groove being adjacent to the channel. The pail is intended for transportation of goods.

  • Patent number: 5823375
Abstract: A cargo container has a frame (3) and a door (8,9) mounted on the frame. A support, preferably in the form of stacking plate (30), is mounted on the door so that when the door is closed and excessive loads applied externally to the container distort the container frame, the support (30) mounted on the door (8.9) engages the frame (3). The support and the door thereby together share the loading forces of the external load with the container frame. Conveniently, the support is spaced from an ISO lifting casting (26) constituting part of the frame (3) of a container, when there are no external loading forces applied to the container frame. Preferably, part of the support is provided by one (19) of two side members (19,20) of the door arranged to extend in a direction between upper and lower crossmembers of the container, in use.

  • Patent number: 5816439
Abstract: A container having walls and a handle attached to the exterior of the container is disclosed. The container has handle receiving means in the form of a keyhole-shaped slot spaced apart from the wall of the container by a distance sufficient to accommodate a flange on the end of the handle. The keyhole-shaped slot has an orifice connected to a tapered slot which is open at the end opposed to the orifice. A shaft located at the end of the handle at each of its opposed ends has two spaced-apart flanges thereon. The shaft and the keyhole cooperatively act for insertion of the shaft into the orifice of the keyhole. At least one of the flanges attached to the handle is sectioned to form an edge in the shape of a hook. During insertion of the handle onto the container, the hook contacts a fulcrum located juxtaposed to the tapered slot of the keyhole which acts as a lever to snap the handle onto the container.

  • Patent number: 5785203
Abstract: A container comprising a main body portion having a top rim, at least one side wall and a bottom wall, and having a tamper evident connection with a lid. The tamper evident connection comprising a channel within a skirt projection outwardly from the side wall below the top rim, a gripping portion of the lid for receiving the top rim and thereby securing the lid to the container. The gripping portion having a distal end to be received within the channel, thereby rendering difficult access to the distal end. The skirt having a breakable and removable portion for facilitating access to the distal end of the gripping portion upon breaking the breakable and removable portion.

  • Patent number: 5755349
Abstract: A freight container of generally cuboidal shape includes a pair of sides which define lateral extremities of the container and extend between ends of the container. The exterior surfaces of the pair of sides are spaced apart by a greater distance along their middle portions than along their end portions which are joined to the ends of the container, whereby the overall exterior width of the container is less at the end portions than at the middle portions. The internal width measured between the middle portions of the sides is more than 2400 mm but the overall thickness of each of the middle portions of the sides is less than 25 mm and the overall exterior width measured at the middle portions of the sides is less than 2470 mm. The container therefore has increased capacity for a given size of each end and is able to be located side-by-side with conventional container.

  • Patent number: 5713510
Abstract: A collapsible container (C) primarily for transporting liquid, powdered or granular material is of polygonal transverse section and includes a plurality of rigid sidewalls (2, 4, 6, 8) interconnected by flexible hinges (16), each sidewall (2, 4, 6, 8) having a top flap (26, 28, 30, 32) and a bottom flap (18, 20, 22, 24) interconnected therewith by flexible hinges (48, 40). At least one, and preferably two, straps (56, 58) are threaded through the upper and lower hinges (48, 40) and through the container to provide external support across the base of the assembled container, and such as not to interfere with the collapsibility of the container, lifting means (60) being provided at the ends of the or each strap (56, 58).

  • Patent number: 5680959
Abstract: A lined container includes a rigid-walled vessel having a discharge port, a flexible liner having a discharge fitment, and an adapter for connecting the discharge fitment to the discharge port of the vessel. The adapter includes a tubular member having a coaxial bore and a set of male, tapered threads for engaging with female, tapered threads of the discharge fitment of the flexible liner. The adapter also includes a flange member for accommodating a sealing ring abutted against an inner wall of the rigid walled vessel. A method of inserting the liner and adapter into the rigid vessel includes guiding the adapter (with liner attached), using a guide leash, through a top aperture, into the vessel, and then out the vessel through the discharge port (leaving just the liner inside).

  • Patent number: 5373961
Abstract: A bulk shipping and storage container for liquids or dry powders comprising a rigid, round, plastic vessel, molded in one piece, and a lid for the vessel. Preferably, these parts are molded of poly(dicyclopentadiene), using the reaction injection molding (RIM) process. The lateral wall of the vessel is inclined inwardly from top to bottom so as to define an upper truncated conical section and lower truncated conical section coaxial with the upper section. The lateral wall is equipped with means for securing the lid to the top of the vessel. A recess is formed in the lateral wall of the vessel and this recess can be tapped with a threaded drainage hole to receive a threaded drain valve. The vessel's bottom is sloped towards this recess to permit complete draining of the container's contents. The container may be mounted on a pallet member or seated in a tub. Alternatively, it may be molded with an integral pallet formed by the lower portion of its lateral wall.
