  • Patent number: 10930146
Abstract: A method of operating an intersection traffic signal includes operating the intersection traffic signal based on a standard signal pattern, determining an adverse road condition on a road surface adjacent an intersection, and determining when a first vehicle on the road surface is within a predetermined distance of the intersection. A signal time period is adjusted for the intersection traffic signal when the adverse road condition is present and the first vehicle is within a predetermined distance of the intersection.

  • Patent number: 10930155
Abstract: An infrastructure-based warning system, where the system is used as part of an intelligent intersection or intelligent road, and is used to detect various objects, such as vulnerable road users (VRUs) and vehicles. The system includes both cameras and radar, the operation of which is optimized based on which of the camera or radar is least affected by current conditions. This optimization includes the use of a marker, attached to infrastructure in the field of view of the detection device, such as a camera, to be optimized. If the camera accurately and consistently detects the marker, then camera detections of objects are weighted with more significance than the detection of objects using radar. If on the other hand, if the camera is unable to accurately detect the marker because of ambient conditions, then the greatest amount of confidence is placed on radar detection.

  • Patent number: 10900538
Abstract: An air spring assembly having pressure relief capability, where the air spring assembly includes a single air volume, or a multi-chamber air volume. When the air spring assembly is operating at a stiffer spring rate in combination with a setting to increase ground clearance, during certain road events, the air spring assembly is compressed, and the pressure in the air spring assembly increases. In order to not exceed the safe mechanical limits of the air spring assembly, the pressure is limited to a maximum value when full compression is achieved. The air spring assembly includes at least one valve, which is opened based on a “cracking pressure,” which is determined based on the mechanical limits of the air spring assembly. This facilitates the operation of the air spring assembly at settings to increase ground clearance of the vehicle, while allowing for pressure relief when the mechanical limit is reached.

  • Patent number: 10901883
Abstract: Memory is dynamically shared or allocated in an embedded computer system. The types of memory that are part of the system are first determined. Thereafter, the amount of memory available for use is determined. The type of memory required by a program or application is determined as is the amount of space that is required. If the amount of memory space that can be allocated to the program in a first type of requested memory is greater than or at least equal to the amount of memory space required by the computer program, the program is then loaded into the available memory. If the requested type of memory is not available or there is not enough of the requested memory available, other types of memory devices are considered and used, if sufficient space in one or more of them exists.

  • Patent number: 10896556
Abstract: A trigger event is detected based on a vehicle malfunction that limits maneuverability of a vehicle. An alert message is generated based on the detected trigger event, and the alert message is broadcast via a Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication. Based on the detected trigger event, a receive channel mask and a transmit channel mask are generated, and a channel mask flag is set. When the channel mask flag is set, one or more incoming message channels are selected based on the incoming channel mask and the channel mask flag, and incoming V2X messages are received and processed only on the selected one or more incoming message channels. When the channel mask flag is cleared, incoming V2X messages are received and processed on the selected one or more incoming message channels and at least one additional incoming message channel.

  • Publication number: 20210009062
Abstract: A crash sensor system for a vehicle capable of operating in an autonomous mode includes an electronic control unit (ECU) having a processor circuit. The ECU triggers an occupant restraint system of the vehicle in the event of a severe impact event with the vehicle. Satellite sensors are electrically connected to the ECU and are mounted at the front end, the rear end, the right side and the left side of the vehicle near or on an outer surface thereof to detect low severity impact event with the vehicle that does not cause activation of the occupant restraint system. The processor circuit executes an algorithm to confirm, via data from the plurality of satellite sensors, whether the low severity impact event with the vehicle occurred and if so, the ECU triggers a brake controller and a steering controller to cause the vehicle, while in the autonomous mode, to pull over and stop.
