In one embodiment, the transition coupling includes an adapter nut having a first end for connection with the metal piping system. A stiffener tube, affixed in the adapter nut, has an external diameter less than an internal diameter of the plastic pipe. An adapter coupling is connected to a second end of the adapter nut. A hollow gripper is positioned within the adapter coupling having an internal circumferential surface configured to grippingly engage the plastic pipe after axial insertion. At least one toroidal elastomeric seal is received over a groove in the stiffener tube to engage the plastic pipe.

The register includes a grill having a plate with grill openings for the passage of air therethrough, a frame connected to the bottom of the grill, at least one damper for regulating the air flow through the register, a pivotal connection connecting the dampers to the frame to allow pivotal movement there between, a biasing mechanism urging the damper against the frame to reduce rattling and vibrations there between, and a control mechanism for moving the damper between an open position permitting air to flow through the register and a closed position wherein air is inhibited from flowing through the register. The control mechanism includes a lever and a control bar. The biasing mechanism includes springs mounted to the control bar and pivotally connected to the damper wherein there is one spring individually urging each damper The leyer and control bar each move through a separate arc.

Flexible arms having projections are located about the cylindrical portion. Clamp guides are positioned about the cylindrical portion as well. The adapter includes multiple, different size cylindrical sections. One of the sections includes openings for receiving the projections on the arms to secure the adapter to the body. A tear-away strip is provided to remove unneeded sections of the adapter. Two attachment mechanisms are provided for securing the diffuser to a ceiling. The diffuser further includes a removable vane unit. The vane unit includes multiple projections for engaging prongs on the base to secure the vane unit to the base. A ribs on the projections contact the prongs to limit vibrations. The diffuser baffles include a collar for reducing vibrations.

A locator wire feeding unit initially feeds the locator wire through a locator wire alignment coupling and proceeds thereafter to project the locator wire through a valve assembly, a locator saddle, and ultimately into a plastic pipe.
