Abstract: A transport vehicle for movement along the surface of the earth has a forward portion with apparatus mounted for mixing dry coal with fluid to form a slurry. The terminus of a cart-supported slurry hose apparatus is connected to the rear portion. A portion of the cart-supported slurry hose apparatus includes linkages which are attached to the rear portion of the transport vehicle. An improvement in the attaching apparatus includes means for pivotally attaching the terminus of the linkage to the vehicle. An arcuate support is attached to the vehicle over the rear end of the vehicle. A coupling is attached between the arcuate support and the linkage to permit the linkage to pivot freely while supporting the linkage from contact with the surface of the earth.

Abstract: Air initiation of pendant or internal olefin sulfitation at commercially useful rates and selectivities is achieved by stirring a mixture containing detergent range internal or pendant olefins, an alkali-metal or ammonium bisulfite, an alkali-metal or ammonium sulfite, an alkali-metal or ammonium alkane or alkylbenzene sulfonate surfactant, water, and an alcohol such as 1-propanol or 1-butanol, at ambient temperature and pressure while passing oxygen-containing gas through the mixture at a very slow rate. Bisulfite present must be in a mole ratio with respect to olefin of from 1 to 1-3 to 1 respectively, while sulfite must be present in a mole ratio to olefin of from 1 to 2-2 to 1. PH of the reaction mixture normally ranges from 5 to 6.

C to about 100.degree. C to form ethylene oxide and ethylene glycol,(3) stripping the basic solution of (2) to obtain a basic aqueous phase and a distillate, the basic aqueous phase being disposed, and(4) condensing and hydrolyzing the distillate and(5) stripping said hydrolysate, recovering the volatile organic portion, and(6) disposing of ethylene glycol in aqueous solution.

Abstract: A method and composition is provided for positioning a polymeric material having particulate matter disposed therein in a subterranean formation penetrated by a wellbore. The composition consists essentially of a hydrocarbon oil, a quaternary salt of an essentially undegraded, cellulose sulfate, solid particulate matter in an amount equal to from about 0.25 to about 22 pounds of particulate matter per gallon of hydrocarbon oil and an acid-settable thermosetting resin in an amount equal to from about 0.1 to about 5.0 gallons per cubic foot of particulate material. The composition is placed in contact with a subterranean formation in a wellbore by a method comprising injecting a first mixture consisting essentially of said quaternary salt of an essentially undegraded cellulose sulfate mixed with hydrocarbon oil followed by the injection of the composition with a post injection of an additional quantity of the quaternary salt in oil.
Abstract: Sand control in an incompetent formation is effected by squeezing a thickened composition [comprising a hydrocarbon oil carrier, particulate matter (e.g. sand) a base-settable thermosetting resin, a neutralizing agent (e.g., lauryl amine), a miscible polar solvent (e.g. ethanol), and a carboxy vinyl polymer (e.g. CARBOPOL 934)] in contact with the incompetent formation and curing with a basic catalyst.
Abstract: A method for removing a vinyl halide, e.g. vinyl chloride, from a polyvinyl halide-containing slurry is disclosed. Briefly, the method comprises counter-currently contacting the slurry with hot water.
Abstract: Alkyl substituted 1,3-dimethylbenzenes are prepared by reacting a mixture of acetone and 1-alkanols over a catalyst, which preferably is alumina, at elevated temperatures and pressures. Preferably, the product contains substantial amounts of penta- and hexaalkylbenzenes.
Abstract: Yield and coke quality of a delayed coking and coke calcining process is improved by addition of coke fines to a coke drum at a temperature approximately equal to or higher than that of the incoming liquid hydrocarbon residuum feedstock during the coking operation.
Abstract: Improved recovery of spent molten zinc halide hydro-cracking catalyst is achieved in the oxidative vapor phase regeneration thereof by selective treatment of the zinc oxide carried over by the effluent vapors from the regeneration zone with hydrogen halide gas under conditions favoring the reaction of the zinc oxide with the hydrogen halide, whereby regenerated zinc halide is recovered in a solids-free state with little loss of zinc values.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for metering water content in an oil-water system by measuring sonic velocity in a flowing oil-water mixture, thereafter to determine flow rate to provide individual oil and water rates which may then be integrated to provide oil and water volume of flow. The apparatus functions to provide continual readout of oil and water data by deriving bi-directional speed of sound through the moving medium with subsequent frequency difference processing to derive sonic velocity, flow rate measurement and subsequent integral data output.
Abstract: The impregnation of carbon with nitrite compounds drastically reduces the formation of acetylene and carbon dioxide in the adsorptive recovery of vinyl chloride monomer from air-contaminated streams containing such monomer.

Abstract: A process for preparing sodium Zeolite A is disclosed. The process comprises:(a) treating an aluminum alkoxide with water in the presence of a reactive silica compound to form an amorphous sodium aluminum silicate gel in the admixture,(b) heating the admixture-containing gel of step (a) at a predetermined temperature (e.g. 70.degree. to 120.degree. C.) until substantially all of the product is Zeolite A, and(c) recovering the desired product.
Abstract: Production of a low ash liquid or liquefiable fuel from coal is effected by solvent treatment and separation of the undissolved solids. The latter are removed by first agglomerating the non-settling finely divided solids, and then effecting separation of the agglomerates in a downwardly moving ebullated bed of agglomerates where the upflowing fluidizing liquid is a wash solvent which preferably is a mixture of precipitating solvent and coal liquefaction solvent.
Abstract: A method for obtaining logging data for use in the determination of the amount of residual oil in a subterranean oil bearing formation, the method comprising the steps of logging the formation, injecting into the formation an aqueous solution of a water soluble radioactive tracer compound, logging the formation, injecting into the formation a second aqueous solution of a radioactive tracer compound which is soluble in both water and oil, and thereafter logging the formation.
Abstract: A low profile port closure apparatus which consists of a port positioned on the vessel to be sealed, a threaded sealing means for effecting fluid-tight closing of said port, and pressure retaining manifold structure which enables sealing positioning and removal of the sealing means in said port, and which manifold means is removable from operative position.
Abstract: Cresols and xylenols are prepared by reacting a mixture of tetramethylphenols and pentamethylphenol with phenol in the liquid phase in the presence of a catalyst selected from the group consisting of activated carbon, magnesium oxide, magnesium carbonate and magnesium hydroxide.
Abstract: Reaction rate and olefin conversion in an organic peroxide initiated addition of water soluble bisulfite to olefins having 12 or more carbon atoms can be increased with the addition of a small amount of water soluble sulfite in combination with an organic solvent and agitation. The catalytic effect of the added sulfite in this reaction system unexpectedly increases as the olefin molecular weight increases, thus allowing convenient and economical sulfitation of mixtures in the C.sub.12 to C.sub.22 olefin range.
Abstract: Sodium, potassium and ammonium thiosulfates may be converted to a mixture of the corresponding carbonates and sulfides by first partially reducing the thiosulfate with CO to formate in a first reduction zone, and then using the formate so produced to effect further reduction of the thiosulfate in a second reduction zone.
