Abstract: This relates to a closure unit which is of a two-piece construction including a measuring cup and a ring member. The ring member includes an annular flange and a skirt having formed thereon locking elements such as threads for engaging the neck finish of a container. The measuring cup is provided mid-height with a flange which is clamped against an end sealing surface of a container by the annular flange of the ring member. The measuring cup is formed of a resilient plastic material so that the flange of the measuring cup has a gasket-like characteristic and can form a seal with the end sealing surface of an associated container. The measuring cup may be fixed relative to the ring member or may be axially movable relative thereto so that in condition of use an open end of the measuring cup will project beyond the skirt of the ring member to permit pouring from the measuring cup.
Abstract: This relates to a blow mold of a large capacity which is particularly configurated to replace two adjacent blow molds in a blow molding machine of the Ferris wheel type. The blow mold includes an inner mold half which will bridge the supports for two existing smaller molds and an outer mold half which is formed in two segments with each of the segments being independently mounted on the supports for two separate prior radially outer blow mold halves. Thus, an existing machine may be readily converted to make much larger blow molded articles then those for which it was originally intended. This abstract forms no part of the specification of this application and is not to be construed as limiting the claims of this application.
Abstract: This relates to providing a preform for use in blow molding containers which are suitable for use in conjunction with hot products which must be subjected to pasteurization. A preform is injection molded in stages and normally will have five layers including two interior barrier layers surrounding a central core. The core is to be formed of a thermoplastic having a high temperature thermal stability and is primarily selected from polycarbonates and acrylonitriles. This abstract forms no part of the specification of this application and is not to be construed as limiting the claims of the application.
Abstract: This relates to a bottom construction for a blow molded container wherein a central portion of the bottom is axially inwardly recessed and pushed in and where, in the forming of the central portion, there are two axially offset halves so as to define an upstanding rib. The rib sufficiently reinforces the recessed bottom portion against inversion even when the wall thickness of the bottle or container is reduced.
Abstract: This relates to a label applicator for applying labels to mold cavities of rotating mold units. The label applicator is fixed relative to moving mold units and includes an extensible fluid motor which carries a pick-up head or suction head for moving the suction head in a straight line direction and return. The extensible fluid motor is carried by a shaft for oscillation between a label pick-up position and a label deposit position. The extensible fluid motor is carried by a bracket which, in turn, is carried by a shaft of a rotary actuator which is constructed to oscillate between two fixed positions which are spaced apart a preselected angular distance. There is incorporated with the rotary actuator a decelerator for rapidly, yet smoothly, decelerating rotation of the bracket carrying the extensible fluid motor. Suitable sensor means are provided for timing the actuation of the label applicator in accordance with the position of a mold cavity into which a label is to be placed.
