Patent number: 5164643Abstract: An apparatus is provided for electrically indexing a rotary component. It includes a housing, a resilient, electrically conductive band contained within the housing and connected to the rotary component, at least two indexing electrical contacts located on the housing internal periphery and in slidable contact with the band, and a bridging electrical contact in connection with the band. The band exerts a biasing force on the housing, thereby maintaining band contact with the housing internal periphery, while also causing a point of separation of the band from the housing. Electrical circuitry is also provided so that once an indexing contact has been selected, the band and the rotary component can be rotated until the band disengages from the selected indexing contact, thus halting further movement of the band and the rotary component.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 1991Date of Patent: November 17, 1992Assignee: Flow-Rite Controls, Ltd.Inventor: Daniel N. Campau

Patent number: 5017899Abstract: A circuit breaker wherein a linkage transmits movements of a manual operating lever to a movable contact for moving the movable contact against a spring bias into engagement with a fixed contact. The linkage is arranged to hold the movable contact in an "ON" position and a releasable latch couples the linkage and the movable contact. A fault detector can effect release of the latch to permit the movable contact to move under the action of its spring from engagement with the fixed contact independently of movement of the linkage and the lever.Type: GrantFiled: February 24, 1989Date of Patent: May 21, 1991Assignee: Delta Circuit Protection & Controls Ltd.Inventor: Martin Critchley

Patent number: 4948095Abstract: A plastic spring loaded shut-off valve for drains in live wells of boats seals without the presence of fluid pressure. This effect is achieved by a biasing spring urging sealing flaps against the valve ports. The flaps are curved and have ribbed edges to accomplish such sealing and prevent jamming of the ports. The biasing spring is secured to a rotating member through slots while the flaps are secured to the member by buttons. The spring and flap are also secured by a bar across the flap, which has a bearing pad where it is contacted by the spring. The rotating member is rotatable on the underside of the valve top screwed to the valve body. Stops on the inside of the valve top limit its rotation.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 1989Date of Patent: August 14, 1990Assignee: Flow-Rite Controls, Ltd.Inventor: Daniel N. Campau

Patent number: 4927568Abstract: A novel and unique apparatus is disclosed for use in aerating water held in a container, such as a livewell in a fishing boat. The aeration apparatus receives fresh water through a conventional water distribution system, aspirates ambient air into the water, and discharges the mixture of fresh water and aspirated air within the livewell at a location substantially below its water level. Air is aspirated into the fresh water by means of a housing mounted above the water level in the livewell. The housing includes a main passageway through which the fresh water passes and an aspirating port in the housing wall which puts the main passageway in communication with ambient atmosphere above the livewell. A discharge tube receives the mixture of fresh water and aspirated air from the housing and directs it to a plurality of discharge ports positioned substantially below the livewell water level.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 1989Date of Patent: May 22, 1990Assignee: Flow-Rite Controls, Ltd.Inventor: Daniel N. Campau

Patent number: 4832073Abstract: A distribution system for filling a baitwell in a boat includes a low pressure pump and a dual check valve. The fluid flow into the system is divided so that the pressure on the pump is reduced, thus enabling the use of an inexpensive pump. The check valve permits the influx of fresh water without the need for recirculating the existing water in the baitwell and also prevents backflow from the baitwell.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 1988Date of Patent: May 23, 1989Assignee: Flow-Rite Controls, Ltd.Inventor: Daniel N. Patent number: 4819577Abstract: An inexpensive fluid flow indicator capable of use in low flow conditions in a variety of environments, including but not limited to laboratory, industry, and medical applications. Flows are visually indicated by the rotation of balls loosely retained in a longitudinal passageway of the indicator's transparent housing by a flow guide and an outlet port. The flow guide imparts a circumferential or transverse direction to the axial flow of the fluid which causes the balls to revolve about the center line of the indicator.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 1988Date of Patent: April 11, 1989Assignee: Flow-Rite Controls, Ltd.Inventor: Daniel N. Patent number: 4793205Abstract: A self-adjusting mechanical cable-control apparatus 6 (FIG. 1) has one end 14 of the cable 1 connected to a pedal 3 by a slotted yoke 17 having a transverse coupling member 22 extending through a U-shaped aperture 21 in the pedal. A tubular spacer 23 of rigid thermoplastics extends co-axially of the cable 1 and co-operates with the yoke 17 and a fixed wall 8 to limit movement of the cable 1 toward a member 4 to be actuated by the influence of resilient biasing spring structure associated with the member 4, thereby defining a rest position unaffected by accidental excessive return displacement of the pedal. A saddle 26 of plastics material having a low co-efficient of friction lines the U-shaped aperture 21 and is connected to the yoke 17 by a spring 33 biassing the pedal 3 toward the yoke 17 and a pedal stop 13.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 1987Date of Patent: December 27, 1988Assignee: Acco Cable Controls Ltd.Inventor: Charles Guidicelli

Patent number: 4732223Abstract: A directional drilling tool permits the control of the angle of drilling of a drill bit through the repeated placement or removal of a ball within the mudstream. The ball activates a clutch mechanism within the directional drilling tool. The clutch mechanism, upon activiation, locks the exterior of the directional drilling sub to a fixed angular orientation. Simultaneously, there is activated a deflection mechanism to deflect a drive shaft which is normally fixed in an aligned straight position within the tube body, so as to shift the normally straight aligned shaft to a deflected position, causing the bit and the sub to angle for drilling at a controlled angle of offset from the vertical. The unit is aligned and located using wireline measuring equipment of known design.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 1985Date of Patent: March 22, 1988Assignee: Universal Downhole Controls, Ltd.Inventors: Schoeffler, William N., Jerry J. Patent number: 4637349Abstract: In a system for controlling a number of central heating boilers of large capacity having means for switching-off each boiler when the flow temperature reaches a predetermined maximum, the temperature at which each boiler is switched on again can be automatically varied in dependence upon the outside temperature in such a manner that as the outside temperature rises the boiler is switched on at progressively lower boiler flow temperatures, thus increasing the length of the boiler cycles. This is achieved by a boiler cycling controller which receives signals from temperature detecting devices located externally of the building and in the water flow and return lines and is operable automatically to vary the point at which the boiler is switched on.Type: GrantFiled: July 9, 1984Date of Patent: January 20, 1987Assignee: E.S.G. Patent number: 4366681Abstract: A detector device is provided, in particular for detecting faulty needles or closed needle latches in a knitting machine with latch type needles, consisting of a non-electrically-conductive feeler which is normally resiliently urged into contact with the upper parts of the needle hooks, and an electrically-conductive probe which normally does not contact the needles but passes through the needle hook openings as relative movement of the needles past the detector takes place. However, if a needle latch is closed the probe makes contact with it and also if the needle hook is broken or bent the feeler is permitted to move laterally thereby enabling the probe to contact the faulty needle, contact of the probe with a needle completing an electrical circuit which signals a needle fault. For circular knitting machines in which the needles travel past the detector, the detector is associated with a controller that stops the machine when the faulty needle reaches a particular position in the needle travel path.Type: GrantFiled: May 25, 1979Date of Patent: January 4, 1983Assignee: Meiners Electronic Controls Ltd.Inventors: John Homocky, Joseph Venczel
