  • Publication number: 20090168857
Abstract: A micro-controller to perform the FSK (HART) modem functions as well as communications and control functions in an isolated channel implementation is described. In one embodiment, the micro-controller comprises: a processor, an analog-to-digital converter configured to transform received analog signals into digital values at a predetermined digital sample rate; and a memory unit containing a set of computer-executable instructions that, when executed on the processor, provide a built-in FSK bi-directional modem function that converts the received digital values into binary signals. The FSK (HART) demodulation function is performed by the micro-controller with the built-in FSK modem function in three sequential phases implemented in computer code: (1) zero crossing and amplitude detection; (2) bit stream and timing generation, and (3) character generation and bit synchronization.

  • Publication number: 20090145927
Abstract: The present invention provides a butterfly plate assembly for a bar gun that includes a ball cluster bearing sized and dimensioned to operationally couple the butterfly plates with an interior surface of a handle upon which the ball cluster bearing rests. The welding of the steel balls to the butterfly plates and the need to purchase such precise and intricately small balls is eliminated by using the molded ball bearing clusters that are shaped and dimensioned to fit in the recesses in the sockets of the bar gun handle.

  • Patent number: 7542875
Abstract: Performance parameters for a reciprocating pump including pulsation energy, temperature energy, solids, Miller number and chemical energy and the like are monitored and employed to at least periodically compute a total energy number over the operating life of the pump. The current computed value is compared to a predictive failure value empirically determined for the respective pump design, to determine when failure is likely to be imminent. Scheduling of maintenance with other pumping operations and objective rating of competing designs is possible based on the total energy number.

  • Patent number: 7540451
Abstract: The combination of a portable component, a cable attaching assembly, and a cable. The component has a wall with oppositely facing inside and outside surfaces and an opening. The cable attaching assembly has an anchor element with first and second transverse legs. The first leg is directed into the opening in a first direction into a first position with the anchor element in a first orientation. The anchor element is changed from the first orientation, with the anchor element in the first position, to place the anchor element in an operative position, wherein the first leg is situated in confronting relationship with the inside of the wall. The cable is connected to the anchor element so that the anchor element cannot be reoriented from the operative position to allow the anchor element to be withdrawn from the opening. The anchor element is the only component required in the opening.

  • Patent number: 7538460
Abstract: An AC synchronous motor, also known as a stepper motor, uses its magnetics and drive coils to produce both motion and excitation for sets of position sensing coils. Each drive phase is equipped with one or more sensing coils, which may be differentially wound, with the coils configured to act as secondaries of a linear variable differential transformer (LVDT). The primary of the so-formed LVDT is the motor drive winding. The outputs from these coils are fed to a microprocessor or DSP through an internal or external A/D converter. The microprocessor or DSP decodes the measured voltages using resolver strategies to produce a position measurement. An alternate mode of operation uses these same coils to form a variable reluctance resolver. This alternative mode of operation could be used for sensing coarse position while the motor drive is not energized.

  • Patent number: 7535303
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing electrical power through two terminals to a load wherein a portion of a LC filter circuit is connectable to each of the terminals. A feedback circuit having a sense capacitor is operably couplable to both portions of the LC output filter. The feedback circuit provides a feedback signal when a frequency of AC voltage across the sense capacitor substantially reaches the resonant frequency of the LC output filter so as to actively damp the voltage across the load.

  • Publication number: 20090121923
Abstract: A method is provided that facilitates generating a radar image to be displayed by a radar system. The method includes receiving range data and azimuth data carried by a radar signal transmitted from a radar antenna in communication with the radar system, wherein the range data and the azimuth data represent the radar image as a plurality of azimuth segments that collectively form the radar image in a polar coordinate system. The range data and the azimuth data are translated into abscissa data and ordinate data that represent the radar image in a Cartesian coordinate system, and noise is filtered from the radar image, followed by generation of the radar image including the target to be displayed by a display screen to an operator.

  • Publication number: 20090115630
Abstract: Systems and methods which allow a spotter external to a vehicle to provide signals to a driver of the vehicle in order to facilitate safe backup operations of the vehicle are disclosed. A wireless transmitter, in wireless communication with a receiver positioned within the vehicle, is operated by the spotter. An indicator, also in communication with the receiver, is configured to provide a plurality of audible and/or visible signals perceivable by the driver in response to a wireless signal received by the receiver from the transmitter. The audible and/or visible signals may comprise selected patterned tones and lights which inform the driver whether they should proceed to backup the vehicle or stop the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 7527068
Abstract: A water cooled valve is provided in the form of a check valve, an air purge valve, a distributor valve, a combination air purge and distributor valve and the like for use in the liquid fuel system of a gas turbine. A movable valve member controls the flow of fluid through the valve's fuel circuit. A separate cooling circuit circulates cooling water through the valve near or alongside the valve member. The water is of a lower temperature than the high temperature liquid fuel, and thereby carries away heat transferred to the valve by the fuel. In one form, the cooling circuit is formed in part by a helical groove in the periphery the valve body housing the valve member. A sealed water jacket surrounds the valve body and has dedicated supply and return ports for coupling the valve to a water supply via water lines. The water ports are positioned tangentially to induce swirling flow inside the valve.
