Abstract: A modular body support system for a prone, supine or side lying person having a plurality of individual functional portions for reacting with body tissues to establish comfort to the person as well as lessen the chances of tissue breakdown and ulcerations. The functional portions having construction such as to prevent shear loading which may cause such tissue breakdown. In addition, the system includes an oversize cover of material to reduce the coefficient of friction and conform easily to the contours of the system as defined by body pressures thereon.

Abstract: A composite plastic foam pillow has a convoluted upper surface, a flat lower surface and a core disposed between those surfaces which is provided with a central void for imparting decreased firmness to the pillow adjacent the void. It is fabricated by coring a block of plastic foam, cutting out a central portion of the core, and then replacing the core and sealing it in its original position.
Abstract: A mattress pad particularly adopted to prevent decubitus ulcers of a person laying thereon wherein there are a head section and a feet and legs section having similar top configurations and an intermediate torso support insert section therebetween of a top configuration different than said other two sections. The insert section is capable of being a replaceable insert within said pad or permanently affixed thereto.
