  • Publication number: 20070166158
Abstract: Apparatus and methods to prevent the rotation of a shaft in one direction using a device comprising a collar disposed around the shaft, a locking arm with an unlocked position and a locked position, and an actuator capable of moving the locking-arm between the unlocked and locked position. When the locking arm is in the unlocked position, the collar and shaft are allowed to rotate in a first direction. However, when the locking arm is in the locked position, the collar and shaft are prevented from rotating in a second direction. This device can also be used to prevent the reverse rotation of a rotating compressor.

  • Publication number: 20060283242
Abstract: With a measurement method and a measurement device for the measurement of a path covered by a first object (1) in relation to a second object (2), a measurement body (3) is deformed by a relative movement of the objects and at least a first deformation sensor (4) assigned to the measurement body (3) converts the measurement body (3) deformation into a measurement signal. The measurement signal is converted by an evaluation device (20) into information on the path covered. In order to increase the precision and measurement speed in a way that is simple structurally and saves space, the measurement signal is emitted when an area of the measurement body (3) is stretched along the longitudinal axis (6) of the measurement body (3) and a further area is compressed along the longitudinal axis (6) of the measurement body (3).

  • Patent number: 7093660
Abstract: A wellhead has, instead of a conventional Christmas tree, a spool tree in which a tubing hanger is landed at a predetermined angular orientation. As the tubing string can be pulled without disturbing the tree, many advantages follow, including access to the production casing hanger for monitoring production casing annulus pressure, and the introduction of larger tools into the well hole without breaching the integrity of the well.

  • Publication number: 20060159523
Abstract: Apparatus for providing an enclosure, for example as a housing or to provide buoyancy, at underwater locations is disclosed comprising an inner shell and an outer shell, with a structural filler disposed between the two. The shells are prepared from fibre-reinforced plastic, with the fibres being oriented to provide resistance to both longitudinal and radial stresses induced in the apparatus by the hydrostatic pressure. The filler may be a structural filler comprising structural members extending between the inner and outer shells and occupying less than 60% of the volume of the cavity between the two shells. Alternatively, the filler may be a substantially void-free structural filler, such as a polyester resin. Methods of fabricating the apparatus are disclosed. In addition, a method of deballasting a buoyancy module is disclosed, in which the ballast, for example water, is withdrawn from the module by means of reduced pressure. Apparatus for deballasting is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7048004
Abstract: The invention relates to a valve system (1) with at least one valve body (2) and a longitudinal slide (3) slidably dispsoed therein which establishes or disrupts a connection between a feed line (4) and at least one inlet (5, 6) or outlet (7, 8) in the valve body 92). The valve system further comprises an electrochemically driven actuator (9) that displaces the longitudinal slide. The aim of the invention is to improve the valve system by simplifying the design of the valve body and the longitudinal slide and to provide a secure and reproducible connection between the inlet/outlet and the feed line in order to feed a corresponding actuating device with a hydraulic fluid. To this end, the longitudinal slide (30 has a longitudinal bore (10) connected to the feed line (4), which can be linked with the inlet (5, 6) or outlet (7, 8) via at least one connecting line (11, 12) that substantially extends radially outward from the longitudinal bore by displacing the longitudinal slide (3) by means of the actuator (9).

  • Patent number: 7025322
Abstract: The invention relates to a blowout valve assembly (blowout preventer (BOP)) comprising a connecting channel, which can be closed by at least one closing device, whereby the closing device can be transversally displaced with regard to the connecting channel by means of a drive device. The aim of the invention is to further improve a blowout valve assembly of this type in order to enable this assembly to be precisely and easily actuated by remote control and while, at the same time, reliably preventing an unintentional opening of the closing device. To this end, the drive device comprises at least two electric motors, which can be operated individually or in a synchronized manner, and comprises a transmission device having at least one irreversible transmission unit. In order to displace the closing device, said transmission unit is drive-connected to both electric motors.

  • Publication number: 20060054850
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for controlling the flow through a compressor with a valve assembly comprising a rotating body having an outer surface. The rotating body is disposed within a valve cavity in the compressor. A non-contacting seal operates to limit the flow of fluid between the outer surface of the rotating body and the valve cavity. An aperture is disposed through the rotating body. A drive assembly rotates the rotating body such that the aperture intermittently allows fluid to bypass the non-contacting seal as the rotating body is rotated.
