Abstract: Silicone hydrogel contact lenses having ophthalmically acceptable surface wettabilities are obtained from pre-extracted polymerized silicone hydrogel contact lens products produced from a polymerizable composition comprising a combination of particular components. The silicone hydrogel contact lenses can be obtained from non-polar resin based contact lens molds and without surface treatments or an interpenetrating polymeric network of a polymeric wetting agent. Related lens products, polymerizable compositions, and methods are also described.

Abstract: A contact lens package includes a base member including a cavity dimensioned to accommodate contact lens and a liquid therein. The combination of the cavity, the contact lens, and the liquid cooperate to collimate partially collimated light directed toward a bottom surface of the cavity. The cavity can be sealed by attaching a removable sealing member to the base member around the cavity. Methods of inspecting ophthalmic lenses using the present packages are also described.

Abstract: Contact lenses ready for use in an eye are provided including a contact lens body containing a hydrophilic polymeric component and a water soluble polymer component. Such contact lenses, which preferably are wet cast molded, are particularly useful as disposable or single use lenses. New contact lens packaging systems and production methods are also provided.

Abstract: A blister package housing a contact lens is described. The package generally includes a base member including a cavity having a bottom surface, for containing a contact lens immersed in a liquid medium. The base member can include a grip region including a curved top surface shaped to accommodate a thumb and a curved bottom surface shaped to accommodate an inner curve of a forefinger. Silicone hydrogel contact lenses located in the liquid medium have a reduced tendency to stick to the bottom surface of the cavity without requiring a surfactant and/or a surface modification of the bottom surface.

Abstract: Optical coherence tomography (OCT) systems are used to measure lenses. The present methods use an OCT system to obtain one or more images of a lens. For example, an OCT system can be used to obtain section images, surface images, or combinations of section images and surface images of vision correcting lenses, such as contact lenses, intraocular lenses, corneal onlay lenses, corneal inlay lenses, and spectacle lenses, or non-vision correcting lenses, such as optical instrument and diagnostic instrument lenses. The images can be used to determine features of the lens, such as surface shapes, thicknesses, curvatures, lens powers, and edge profiles, among others. The present methods include lens metrology methods, lens design methods, and lens manufacturing methods.

Abstract: An interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) composition and a process for the manufacture of hydrogel contact lens using the invention material. The polymeric materials are formed by polymerization of: (1) an unsaturated alkyl(meth)acrylate or its derivatives such as 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate as the principle monomer; (2) optionally vinyl containing comonomer(s) to enhance the resulting hydrogel water absorbing capability; (3) polymerizable multi-functional crosslinking agent(s); (4) an irradiation initiator and/or thermal initiator; (5) optionally other additives to impart the resulting hydrogel specific properties such as ultra-violet blocking ability and handling colors; in the presence of a soluble, hydrophilic IPN agent such as polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) or poly-2-ethyl-2-oxazoline (PEOX) with a specific molecular weight range.
