  • Patent number: 5295813
Abstract: A scroll machine has a drive that incorporates radial compliance. The radial compliance is achieved by having the crank pin drive a drive bushing via a flat surface on the crank pin which slidably engages a flat bearing insert disposed in the wall of a bore located in the drive bushing. The bore in the drive bushing is slightly oval in cross-sectional shape to permit relative sliding movement between the crank pin and the drive bushing.

  • Patent number: 5267844
Abstract: A means for attaching the bearing housing to an outer shell is disclosed. The outer shell is plastically deformed into a plurality of apertures formed into the bearing housing. The deformation of the shell is such that material is displaced into the aperture of the bearing housing member without penetrating through the wall of the shell, thus maintaining the integrity of the shell. The shape of the displaced material of the shell is such that a generally cylindrical load bearing surface having a sharp corner is created which is capable of withstanding both axially and circumferentially directed forces of substantial magnitude.

  • Patent number: 5176506
Abstract: An improved lubrication system for a refrigeration compressor is disclosed which lubrication system incorporates filtering arrangement for filtering lubricant supplied to a two stage lubricant pump and unique venting arrangement for venting gaseous refrigerant entrained within the lubricant. The two stage pump incorporates a vent passage in the first stage portion thereof which aids in avoiding a possible interruption of lubricant flow due to gaseous refrigerant within the first stage. A second radially extending restricted vent passage is provided in the drive shaft intermediate the ends thereof which is also designed to vent gaseous refrigerant while resisting the flow of lubricant therethrough so as to avoid priming thereof which could enable the passage to begin pumping lubricant.

  • Patent number: 5129793
Abstract: A refrigeration compressor incorporating an improved suction muffler is disclosed. The suction muffler provides dual sound attenuating chambers within a single housing, which housing is secured to the suction inlet conduit extending between the motor cover and suction inlet for the compressor. Integrally formed openings in the sidewall of the conduit provide communication with each of the two chambers and the respective chambers may be tuned to attenuate different specific frequencies. Internal integrally formed baffles within each of the chambers serve to eliminate standing waves within the chambers as well as adding stiffness to the muffler.

  • Patent number: 5073146
Abstract: A refrigeration compressor is disclosed which incorporates an improved valve plate assembly having selected portions thereof bowed outwardly to form discrete raised surface portions thereon. These raised surface portions serve to initially increase the clamping force on the gasket means disposed between the valve plate and head or compressor housing to thereby insure a fluid tight seal is maintained during operation of the compressor. Further the valve plate assembly incorporates dual suction valves oriented in side by side relationship and secured to the valve plate at opposite ends. This arrangement offers improved gas flow to the compression chamber by substantially reducing competition between adjacent valves.

  • Patent number: RE34297
Abstract: A refrigeration motor compressor assembly has a housing including a lubricant sump in the bottom thereof into which the lower end of the drive shaft and associated rotor extend. A shield is provided which is positioned by the drive shaft and extends above the oil level in the sump in surrounding spaced relationship to the lower end of the rotor. As the rotor rotates within the shield, lubricant contained therein is thrown out of the surrounding shield and a close fit between the shield and the shaft restricts return flow of lubricant into the area occupied by the rotating rotor.
