Abstract: A method is described for determining the antioxidant power of biological fluids such as saliva, serum, plasma, urine, sweat, tears and vegetal fluids, such as fruit, vegetables, beverages derived therefrom. Said method proved to be particularly suitable when evaluating the antioxidant power of saliva, which presents particular complexities from the analytical viewpoint. Furthermore, the present invention concerns a specific reagent and a kit for implementing said method, which comprises said reagent.
Abstract: The present invention relates to flour-based food products containing Nopal (Opuntia ficus-indica) capable to reduce body weight and plasma LDL cholesterol, lipids and glucose.
Abstract: The present invention relates to compositions comprising chitosan, in the form of drugs or food supplements, suitable for comprehensive therapeutic treatment or comprehensive prevention of the metabolic syndrome. Also described is their preparation. More generally, the invention concerns the use of chitosan for comprehensive therapeutic treatment or comprehensive prevention of the metabolic syndrome.
Abstract: Bakery products and pasta with added chitosan are disclosed. The chitosan is addified with a biologically acceptable acid and added to pasta and baked products. Once the baked products and/or pasta are ingested, gastro-intestinal absorption of fats is limited even after cooking.
Abstract: An antioxidant composition is described for reducing oxidative stress in subjects undergoing hormonal contraceptive drug treatment. In particular, said composition has proved to be particularly suitable because, as well as being surprisingly effective, it is extremely well-tolerated by the body as it contains natural components such as catechins from green tea, selenium yeast, alpha-lipoic acid, and coenzyme Q10.
