  • Patent number: 6676193
Abstract: A vehicle has a chassis providing a drier compartment and includes a door frame about an opening into the driver compartment. A door is cooperatively dimensioned and configured to close the opening, and is pivotably mounted on the door on the forward portion of the door frame by a hinge. The hinge includes a pivot pin having a pivot axis angled rearwardly and outwardly. The door pivots upwardly and forwardly about the pivot pin during opening movement. Upward opening of the door is facilitated by the inclusion of a spring arragement biasing the door into an open position.

  • Patent number: 6464030
Abstract: A vehicle has a chassis with at least one front wheel pivotable about a first vertical axis to control the direction of the vehicle. A rigid swing arm is pivotally mounted on the rear end of the chassis for pivoting about a horizontal axis. On the rear end of the swing arm is a wheel mounting assembly including a hub and pivot means mounting the hub on the rear end of the swing arm for pivotal movement about a second vertical axis. The rear wheel is rotatably supported on the hub and naturally tracks the front wheel in a cooperating turning arc.

  • Patent number: 6422648
Abstract: A tandem motorcycle saddle and backrest has a backrest mounting unit embedded in the cushioning material in the front section of said passenger seat portion. The unit has a housing with a slot in the top wall, and a pivotable member pivotably mounted in the housing for movement in a path along the slot. A spring means biases the pivotable member about the pivot in a rearward direction to an upright position as oriented on the motorcycle, and a stop element limits movement in the rearward direction. The fabric covering and cushioning material have openings therein aligned with the housing slot. The backrest has an elongated rigid support arm having its lower portion extending through the opening in the slot, and removably seated in the pivotable member. The backrest is pivotable in a forward direction against the biasing pressure of the spring.

  • Patent number: 5960901
Abstract: A three-wheeled, battery-powered personal vehicle has a single rear wheel at the end of a swing arm pivotally supported on the vehicle chassis. A motor, also pivotally supported on the chassis, pivots about the same axis as the swing arm, pivots and powers the rear wheel through a endless drive member. The chassis is provided by a lightweight, synthetic resin tub with substantial structural rigidity. The upper body is a separate synthetic resin tub which can be nested within the chassis for shipment and readily assembled thereto at the point of sale. The assembled chassis and upper body define a generally ovoidal configuration. Batteries are carried in a front compartment and provide crash protection for frontal impacts and other batteries are located beneath the vehicle seat to provide a low center of gravity. Transversely extending chassis members provide structural stiffness as well as support elements for the assembly.
