Patent number: 8177176Abstract: A hanger bar for supporting a recessed light fixture is attachable to ceiling joists or a T-bar grid of a drop down ceiling. First and second bars of the hanger bar slide and telescope. First and second spring clips are detachably coupled to the brackets at the ends of the first and second bars, respectively. Each of the first and second clips has a pair of downwardly extending arms bent inwardly toward one another, a first leg extending from a first arm, a second leg extending from a second arm, and an outwardly-extending foot on the second leg. The spring clips snap on to the T-bar grid. Each bracket includes a nail that is angled away from the hanger bar and downward so that the nail head is below the level of the hanger bar. The angled nails enable easy hammer strikes to attach the hanger bar to ceiling joists without accidental hammer blows to the hanger bar. The bracket may be discrete from the hanger bar but attached via tox clinching or a tab pass-through attachment.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 2009Date of Patent: May 15, 2012Assignee: Cordelia Lighting, Inc.Inventors: Huan Nguyen, Dwight Santiago, Dan Dix

Patent number: 8138418Abstract: A junction box having a sheathed cable retainer structure is disclosed. The junction box contains pry outs that cover openings at corners of the junction box wherein the pry outs are removed and a sheathed cable or like electrical wiring can pass therethrough. A strain relief bracket having segmented distal bends at opposite ends thereof engages the cable and under bias pushes the cable against an indent formed on a wall inside the junction box opposite the cable.Type: GrantFiled: February 10, 2010Date of Patent: March 20, 2012Assignee: Cordelia Lighting, Inc.Inventors: Dwight D. Santiago, Dan Dix, Huan Nguyen

Publication number: 20110267826Abstract: A recessed ceiling light fixture with spring biased retainer clips that retract flush or are biased away from the side of the can housing for installation is disclosed. The fixture includes a housing having a side wall, a top wall, and an open bottom. Two rigid retainer clips are mounted diametrically opposed on the housing. Each retainer clip has a mounting tab inside the housing extending into a leg that passes out of the housing, which leg is bent to form an elbow, which elbow extends to a strut passing back into the housing, wherein the mounting tab selectively engages the side wall to limit movement of the spring clip. A bolt and coiled spring create compliance and bias in the spring clip by passing loosely through a slotted opening in the top wall at one end and joining the mounting tab at the other end.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 11, 2011Publication date: November 3, 2011Applicant: Cordelia Lighting, Inc.Inventors: Dwight David Santiago, Seth Chang, Huan C. Nguyen

Patent number: 7722227Abstract: A recessed lighting fixture providing illumination from a light source comprising a plurality of light emitting diodes (LEDs) placed within a cavity of a planar surface, such as a ceiling, wall, or shower. The fixture comprises a baffle integrated with a low profile heat sink that is used to draw heat out of the fixture and communicate that heat to a trim ring of the fixture for dissipation of the heat in the room so that higher intensity light sources can be used. Improved grounding of the recessed trim unit to the recessed housing is provided with combination support and grounding springs. One embodiment of the light source is fixed in position while a second embodiment is gimbal mounted for aiming the light produced by the fixture.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 2008Date of Patent: May 25, 2010Assignee: Cordelia Lighting, Inc.Inventors: Kanghong Zhang, Daniel Dix

Patent number: 7339471Abstract: A time-controlled security lighting system records the length of nighttime and is capable of automatically adjusting for seasonal nighttime hours. The time duration between the initial nighttime darkness and the light of dawn, as sensed from the prior day by a photocell, is measured and recorded in memory. As the surrounding area becomes dark, the lighting system is activated to provide the illumination for the area. The duration of illumination is determined based on a predetermined fraction of the recorded length of nighttime from the previous night. The control system can adjust the duration of illumination according the recorded nighttime durations from the previous night. The control system can also adjust the level of illumination based on the signals from a motion detector, where the lights are set at a higher brightness for a predetermined amount of time upon detection of motion.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 2005Date of Patent: March 4, 2008Assignee: Cordelia Lighting, Inc.Inventors: Peter Chan, Timothy Edward Monroe, James T. Patent number: 7152992Abstract: A lighting system including a mount for one person installation to a support surface having a rigid conduit supplying electrical wires. The lighting system includes a housing containing a light source. A hollow suspension arm extends from the housing and a back plate is located on the arm opposite the housing. The suspension arm includes a removable bottom access plate with a knock-out blank to provide optional wiring access, and the back plate includes a frangible portion. An impact blow creates an opening in the frangible portion that leads into the hollow arm. Straight and curved extension sections are provided for optional attachment to the rigid conduit. The rigid conduit is inserted through the opening in the back plate and into the arm thus suspending the lighting system therefrom.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 2005Date of Patent: December 26, 2006Assignee: Cordelia Lighting, Inc.Inventors: Tim E. Monroe, John H. Wandrey

Patent number: 6987267Abstract: A light fixture has motion detection circuitry enclosed within a motion detector housing. The motion detector housing contains at least one thermal detector such as a passive infrared sensor, the sensor having a detection angle. At least one adjustable blind is housed within the housing adjacent to the infrared sensor, and the blind is adjustable to block and limit the detection angle of the sensor. The blind may be directly connected to a knob on a control panel that allows the user to alter the angle of the blind. Two or more blinds may be used on the interior of the housing, to increase adjustability of the detection angle.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 2003Date of Patent: January 17, 2006Assignee: Cordelia Lighting, Inc.Inventors: Tim Monroe, Peter Chan
