    Abstract: The present invention relates to a balloon catheter having a tubular basic body with distal and proximal ends, and at least one lumen extending between the proximal and the distal ends. A balloon is attached to the basic body close to the distal end which is connected with the lumen, so that the balloon may be selectively expanded by means of supplying a medium under pressure through the lumen. The balloon has at least one safety stop, which may extend between the distal and the proximal end of the balloon.
