Abstract: A playable volume generation method is provided. A playlist includes a plurality of playlist items, each targeting one of the playable items to be displayed according to the arrangement of the playlist items. A designated inter-item position on the playlist for inserting a new playlist item is received. A former playlist item and a later playlist item adjacent to the new playlist item are automatically retrieved. A second playable item targeted by the new playlist item is automatically generated to simulate a transition effect transitioning from the end of the playable item targeted by the former playlist item to the beginning of the playable item targeted by the later playlist item.

Abstract: A computer architecture with multiple operating systems (OS) using a common disc partition and a method for the same are proposed. The computer architecture includes: a first operating system having a file system used to store a second operating system; a random access memory (RAM) disc, wherein the RAM disc is a virtual storage device composed of partial memory of a memory unit and the second operating system can be executed in the RAM disc; and a basic input/output system (BIOS) used to control a booting procedure of a computer system and load the second operating system into the RAM disc. Therein, the second operating system can use parameter information and a multimedia playback system of the first operating system directly via an interface unit.

Abstract: The present invention discloses methods for generating a slide show of an image. With the methods, every still image could be displayed with the vivid effect of a dynamic video. The steps of one method according to the present invention comprise: performing a semantic analysis of a image for detecting semantic regions; selecting a first region and a second region from the semantic regions; determining a first and a second zooming levels of the first and second regions, respectively; and generating a slide show of the image by panning the image from the first region to the second region while zooming the image from the first zooming level to the second zooming level, gradually.

Abstract: A system and method of a DVD player for displaying multiple subtitles includes a loading platform for reading digital data of DVD storage media; an interface management platform of receiving end for transmitting a decoded message of a first subtitle set image to a comparison platform. The comparison platform is for checking whether control signal of the first subtitle set image from the loading platform exists in an accumulator register. If not, the digital data is analyzed and decoded through an analytic platform and a decoder platform according to an identifying code of data flow and the first subtitle set image control signal. Then a mixed digital video signal and a digital audio signal are outputted by an image construct platform and an output platform.

Abstract: An image composition system. The image composition system comprises an image detection unit and an image composition unit. The image detection unit detects marked parts in low dynamic range images. The low dynamic range images are images of the same scene taken at different exposure levels. The image composition unit sets exposure history data of the low dynamic range images according to the marked parts. The image composition unit then synthesizes the low dynamic range images into a high dynamic range image according to the exposure history data.

Abstract: A video stabilization method. First, optical flows between successive frames are calculated. The camera motion is then estimated by fitting the computed optical flow field to a simplified affine motion model with a trimmed least square method. Then, the computed camera motions are smoothed to reduce the motion vibrations by using a regularization method. Finally, all frames of the video are transformed based on the original and smoothed motions to obtain a stabilized video.

Abstract: A video processing method. A display region is provided according to a timeline, comprising at least one first sub-region with higher time resolution and one second sub-region with lower time resolution. A time scale value of the first sub-region is smaller than that of the second sub-region, and the first and second sub-regions have low-speed and medium-speed controls for scrolling forward and backward respectively. When a desired frame is located in the first sub-region, the low-speed or medium-speed control is scrolled to forward or backward on the timeline according to an operating command to locate the desired frame. When the desired frame is located in the second sub-region, the low-speed or medium-speed control is scrolled to forward or backward on the timeline according to an operating command to move the desired frame to the first sub-region.

Abstract: A rate controlling method for computing a reference quantization parameter is provided, for use in a transcoder having a variable length decoder, an inverse quantizer, a quantizer and a variable length encoder. The rate controlling method comprising: receiving an input quantization parameter and motion information for each of the macroblocks from the variable length decoder; analyzing the similarity of motion information between a current macroblock and its neighboring macroblocks to compute a scaling factor for the current macroblock when allocated within P- and B-pictures; computing a bit difference between a target outputting bit stream and a real outputting bit stream; estimating the fullness of a virtual buffer to encode the current macroblock in view of the scaling factor; and computing the reference parameter based on a target bit rate, the first quantization parameter and the bit difference.

Abstract: A video editing method for editing a video project is for user to edit video clips and transition effects. The method firstly provides a timeline and multiple tracks along the timeline. Then the video clips and transition effects are inserted into the corresponding tracks. Next, the timeline is cut into multiple segments so that each of the segments corresponds to distinguishable combination of the video clips and the transition effects. And for each of the segments, the invention displays each of the tracks with a limited number of thumbnails derived from the corresponding video clips, or with an icon indicating the corresponding transition effect. This method enables users to edit video projects on multi-tracks without the need to change the unit of timeline often.

Abstract: A method for contour stroke generation. First, edge pixels of an image are detected. The connected edge pixels are traced to generate non-branched edges. Each non-branched edge represents a list of connected edge pixels without branches. Thereafter, the non-branched edges are clustered. Then, the non-branched edges are transformed into curves, and the curves are drawn with a series of footprints to generate contour strokes of the image.

Abstract: A method to crop image from an irregularly shaped region. A top-left corner of the best cropping rectangle are determined by sequentially scanning the rows of the irregularly shaped region to find out the largest bounding area. By rolling back the largest bonding area from the x or y direction, the bottom-right corner is determined.

Abstract: A method and system for visual content authoring and user interface thereof. An authoring interface, comprising a plurality button controls, is first provided. Required play items are added using the button controls to generate a playlist, and a navigation path is then defined according to the play items and the playlist. Next, the media objects and the navigation path are compiled to generate a disc image file, including a plurality of video clips, each comprising a plurality of PGCs with an unlimited number of playlists and play items.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a data scanning system and a method thereof for a server. The method includes steps of defining an auditing period, scanning an accessed data in a default scanning mode from the server by a user, obtaining a credit data of the user, and executing a rearranging process for resetting a reset scanning mode for the user according to the credit data when the auditing period is expired, thereby the default scanning mode being adjustable according to the credit data of the user.
