Patent number: 4799869Abstract: An intermittently operating pneumatic vane pump has a cylindrical seat for its rotor constituted by a ring of porous sintered material housed in a container. The lubricating oil is collected in an interspace between the ring and the container when the pump is operating and returns to the pump when the pump is stopped, to keep the ring of the seat impregnated.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 1988Date of Patent: January 24, 1989Assignees: CORINT S.r.l., GARRIG 4 S.s.Inventors: Ettore Cordiano, Pierino Garnero, Domenico Frigo

Patent number: 4751977Abstract: A power steering system for motor vehicles includes a two chamber piston and cylinder actuator connected to an output member output member of the steering system and first and second sources of fluid pressure having different absolute pressures p1 and p2, respectively, wherein p2 is greater than p1. A regulating valve is connected between the sources and the actuator for controlling the pressure medium sources to each chamber of the actuator in response to torque applied to an input element of the steering system. An additional pump is connected between at least one of the sources and the actuator for increasing the pressure difference in the actuator when appropriate. The fluid utilized is air, and the system normally operates without the use of the additional pump using only the pressure jump p2-p1 between the first and second sources.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 1987Date of Patent: June 21, 1988Assignee: Corint S.r.l.Inventor: Ettore Cordiano

Patent number: 4615408Abstract: In a rack power-steering system, the axial movements of a helical pinion meshing with the rack, resulting from torque applied to the pinion, cause corresponding movements of the movable member of a control valve of the system. This is achieved through a transmission including a piston movable axially with the pinion and defining a variable-volume compartment filled with a substantially-incompressible, deformable material, such as a fluid (oil or grease) or rubber, this material being intended to transmit a control pressure to the movable member of the control valve through a rod which may be formed integrally with the movable member or as a separate member. The variable-volume compartment is located at one end of a cylindrical chamber of the box of the system within which the piston is slidable and the latter is located in a position axially intermediate the variable-volume compartment and an end of the shaft carrying the helical pinion.Type: GrantFiled: January 2, 1985Date of Patent: October 7, 1986Assignee: CORINT S.r.l.Inventor: Ettore Cordiano

Patent number: 4574907Abstract: In a control valve for a power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering apparatus having a slidable member adapted to sense the axial movement of a helical tooth pinion, pre-stressed spring means ensure the return of the slidable member of the valve into its central neutral position, against the friction forces existing in the whole apparatus. These means also avoid intervention of power-assistance below a predetermined value of the torque onto the pinion. In one embodiment of the control valve which operates in connection with a closed center air circuit, means are provided to minimize the friction forces allowing at the same time the use of a simple and inexpensive structure.Type: GrantFiled: March 9, 1984Date of Patent: March 11, 1986Assignee: Corint S.r.l.Inventor: Ettore Cordiano

Patent number: 4570737Abstract: In a power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering apparatus, axial movements of a helical tooth pinion resulting from a torque being applied thereto cause corresponding displacements of the movable member of a control valve of the apparatus. A piston which moves axially together with pinion defines a sealed chamber of variable volume, which is filled with an incompressible fluid, such as oil or grease. The movable member of the control valve is slidably mounted along an axis different from the pinion axis and is operated by a push-rod having one end surface arranged so as to sense the pressure within the chamber of variable volume. Means are provided for holding the movable member of the control valve in its central neutral position in case the fluid contained within the chamber is lost.Type: GrantFiled: March 9, 1984Date of Patent: February 18, 1986Assignee: Corint s.r.l.Inventor: Ettore Cordiano

Patent number: 4524631Abstract: Valve for controlling a power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering mechanism, of the slide-valve kind, whose slide member 11 moves along an axis different from that of the pinion 1 as a result of the axial movement of the pinion produced by the thrust exerted on it by the rack because of the inclination of its teeth, said slide member being connected to the pinion through a kinematic mechanism with a high transmission ratio consisting of a rubber ring, all outer surfaces of which are enclosed by rigid walls, a push-rod 10, and resilient means pressing one against the other said rubber ring, push-rod and slide member in such a way that the displacements of the slide member is given by the displacement of the pinion multiplied by the ratio between the area of the rubber exposed to the axial thrust acting on the pinion and the area of the cross-section of push-rod 10.Type: GrantFiled: November 2, 1982Date of Patent: June 25, 1985Assignee: Corint S.r.L.Inventor: Ettore Cordiano

Patent number: 4487281Abstract: Power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering mechanism with a slide-valve which senses the axial thrusts acting on the pinion through a kinematic mechanism with a high transmission ratio, the slide member of the valve consisting of a piston 9 provided with frontal rims 11 and 12 on each end face, cooperating with associated seats formed on the housing, said rims and seats forming varying passages through which the two actuator chambers are connected to the reservoir, means being provided for varying also the communication between the same chambers and the pump, depending on the torque applied to the pinion, piston, seats and housing being so designed that the fluid pressure existing in the operative chamber acts on one or the other piston end face and thus gives the driver the measure of the same pressure. The system is particularly suitable for a vacuum operated power-steering system which permits a very strong reduction in cost in comparison with a conventional hydraulic power-steering system.Type: GrantFiled: November 2, 1982Date of Patent: December 11, 1984Assignee: Corint S.r.l.Inventor: Ettore Cordiano
