Patent number: 7914347Abstract: An electrical connector has first and second connector bodies. The first connector body has an inclined surface and the second connector body has arms that correspond to the inclined surfaces. At the end of the inclined surfaces are generally flat portions forming a ledge that prevent the connector bodies from separating. To unmate the connector bodies, one connector body is rotated relative to the other, causing the arms to move from the generally flat portion to the outer surface of the second connector to allow them to be moved axially away from one another.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 2009Date of Patent: March 29, 2011Assignee: Corning Gilbert Inc.Inventor: Eric James Paulus

Patent number: 7828594Abstract: A connector having a front end for attachment to a terminal and a back end for attachment to a coaxial cable includes a body, a post mounted within the body; and a contact assembly movably mounted within the post and body. The contact assembly includes a guide, a contact mounted to the guide, and preferably a clip mounted to the contact for making electrical and mechanical connection with the center conductor of the coaxial cable and a sabot. The contact assembly moves longitudinally toward the front end of the connector, such that the front end of the contact moves from a first position completely within the body to a second position proximate the connector interface, as the connector receives the coaxial cable. Preferably, the guide has an opening for the center conductor, which is viewable to a user during attachment until the center conductor enters the opening. The sabot moves with the contact assembly in a telescoping fashion enabling a greater distance of axial displacement.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 2008Date of Patent: November 9, 2010Assignee: Corning Gilbert Inc.Inventors: Donald Andrew Burris, Jan Michael Clausen

Patent number: 7758370Abstract: The electrical connector has a tubular sleeve and an outer tubular housing disposed over the tubular sleeve with at least two openings in the outer tubular housing to receive projections from the tubular sleeve. A resilient member biases the tubular sleeve and outer tubular housing relative to one another. Moving the outer tubular housing relative to the tubular sleeve pushes the projections radially inward to release the electrical connector. In an alternative embodiment, moving the outer tubular housing pulls the projections radially outward releasing the electrical connector.Type: GrantFiled: June 26, 2009Date of Patent: July 20, 2010Assignee: Corning Gilbert Inc.Inventor: Thomas E. Patent number: 7565740Abstract: A method of preparing the end of a coaxial cable for insertion within a coaxial cable connector involves stripping the cable jacket from the end of the cable, and reducing the outer diameter of the cable jacket portion lying adjacent the stripped portion of the jacket to a relatively constant reduced diameter. The reduced diameter portion of the cable jacket can then be reliably sealed to the back nut of the coaxial connector by an O-ring. A related preparation tool is disclosed for simultaneously stripping the cable jacket from the end of the cable, and reducing the outer diameter of the cable jacket portion lying adjacent the stripped portion, as the tool is rotated about the end of the coaxial cable. The tool may also serve to remove a portion of the outer conductor, as well as a coring member to remove dielectric surrounding the inner conductor of the cable.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 2004Date of Patent: July 28, 2009Assignee: Corning Gilbert Inc.Inventor: Jimmy C.
