Abstract: Continuous workload availability between sites at unlimited distances, which includes receiving a unit of work data. Once the unit of work data has been received the workload that the unit of work data is directed to is determined, and a primary site of a plurality of sites to process the unit of work is chosen. If the processing of the unit of work data is successful, then one of one or more processing systems of the primary site are selected to process the unit of work data, and the unit of work data is replicated to at least one other site. The primary site is separated from each of the plurality of sites by a distance greater than a metropolitan area network (MAN) and operations occur within a customer acceptability window.

Abstract: An authentication and authorization plug-in model for a cloud computing environment enables cloud customers to retain control over their enterprise information when their applications are deployed in the cloud. The cloud service provider provides a pluggable interface for customer security modules. When a customer deploys an application, the cloud environment administrator allocates a resource group (e.g., processors, storage, and memory) for the customer's application and data. The customer registers its own authentication and authorization security module with the cloud security service, and that security module is then used to control what persons or entities can access information associated with the deployed application.

Abstract: An approach is provided for providing a list-based interface to key-value stores. The library interface platform determines one or more key-value pairs of at least one key-value store, the one or more key-value pairs comprising one or more data entries. Next, the library interface platform causes, at least in part, an association of at least one list object with the one or more key-value pairs, one or more sub-list objects, or a combination thereof. Then, the library interface platform provides at least one interface for performing one or more operations on the at least one list object to interact with the one or more data entries, the one or more key-value pairs, the one or more sub-list objects, or a combination thereof.

The portal page is aggregated by a computer and a renderer is selected based on a client system browser specific environment. At least one hypothetical resource is created, which incorporates a best efficiency from among the actual resources with respect to each of the plurality of services, and a scheduling policy is assimilated. A customer queue is generated with respect to each hypothetical resource and in accordance with the at least one scheduling policy. Each hypothetical resource is mapped to each actual resource and a minimum parameter increase from among pairs comprising a hypothetical resource and an actual resource is determined.

Abstract: Network utilization of an arbitrary application is controlled by tracking network usage statistics of virtual machines (VMs), including at least VMs hosting parts of the application. For network utilization control, VMs serve as network proxies for elements of the application. A specification for a network requirement of the application is evaluated against the network usage statistics. When a network capacity requirement to/from/through an element of the application is not satisfied, one or more VMs are adapted to satisfy the requirement. For example, a VM may be migrated from a host or network location that has excess network bandwidth. Or, for example, network bandwidth availability for an under-requirement VM may be increased and bandwidth availability for a VM at an appropriate host or network location may be decreased. Thus, application-level communication path requirements may be satisfied using VM adaptations.

Abstract: A method to map an application session to a compatible multiple grants per interval (MGI) service flow is provided. The method includes the steps of sorting available MGI service flows according to a duration of their grant intervals in a first list and sorting application sessions according to a maximum size of a packet in an application session in a second list. The method further includes the step of mapping an application session from the second list to a MGI service flow in the first list if a maximum size and periodicity of packets in the application session are compatible with a grant size and grant interval of the MGI service flow and transmitting packets corresponding to the application session in the mapped MGI service flow.

First data and second data continuously received as a file from a higher level apparatus are accumulated in multiple buffer segments in the form of multiple successive data sets. Management information indicating a result of the determination is added to the data sets, and the data sets and the management information thereof are stored into the tape medium.

Abstract: This method for manufacturing trichlorosilane, includes: reacting metallurgical grade silicon with silicon tetrachloride and hydrogen so as to obtain a reaction gas; condensing the reaction gas so as to obtain a condensate; and distilling the condensate using a distillation system including a first distillation column and a secondary distillation column so as to refine trichlorosilane. While maintaining the condensate in a high temperature state so that a concentration of aluminum chloride in the condensate becomes in a range of a saturation solubility or less, the condensate flows to the first distillation column. A liquid distilled in the first distillation column is distilled by the secondary distillation column so as to refine trichlorosilane. A liquid in which aluminum chloride is concentrated is extracted from a bottom portion of the first distillation column. The extracted liquid is concentrated and dried, and then aluminum chloride is exhausted.
