Abstract: Sheet metal roofing or siding batten system (10) and standing seam system (30) are disclosed. The batten system (10) comprises pan (11), mounting bracket (16) and batten (23) sections. The standing seam system (30) comprises pan (31) and mounting bracket (32) sections. Both mounting bracket designs include a base (13,33), upwardly extending .legs (15,35), and downwardly extending securing legs (16,36) having inwardly extending protrusions (17,37) used to secure lateral borders (28 and 38,39) of the pans to the brackets. The invention ensures positive interlock of the components while allowing for thermal expansion and variations in pan geometry inherent in metal roofing systems.
Abstract: A standing seam roofing/cladding system (2) includes elongate pans (4) having first and second lateral edges (6, 8) secured to a support structure (12) by channel brackets (10). The channel brackets each include a base (36) and first and second U-shaped arms (38, 40) defining downwardly opening cavities (42, 44). The lateral edges of the pans each include upwardly extending hems (18, 20), sized and positioned to be housed within the cavities formed by the U-shaped arms. The lateral edges also include generally vertically extending legs (22, 24) extending from the hems. The engagement of the hems within the cavities secures the lateral edges of the pans to the support structure. The upper portions (26, 28; 58, 60) of the legs are mechanically interlocked to form a standing seam (30; 62) thus creating a standing seam joint (45). An optional batten (52) may be used over the standing seam joint if desired.
Abstract: A roofing/cladding system (2) for mounting to a structure (4) includes elongate pans (6) having central portions (32) and lateral edges (8, 10) with U-shaped pockets (24, 26) defining inwardly opening edge recesses (28, 30). The pan also includes legs (34, 36) extending upwardly from the upper part (38, 40) of the pockets. The upper edges (72, 74) of the legs are plain to facilitate bending the pans to cover concave or convex surfaces. A bracket (12), used to hold down the pans at their opposed edges, has a base (14), first, upwardly extending arms (46, 48) and second, downwardly extending arms (50, 52) and defining regions (58, 60) therebetween. The legs of the pans are inserted into the regions.
